Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking to hire a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Chicago Veterans' Home. This position serves under direct supervision of the Nursing Supervisor, performing a variety of experienced practical nursing functions for the physically ill, handicapped or geriatric patients on an assigned shift and nursing unit. Essential Functions

• 25% Under the general supervision, independently performs a variety of skilled practical nursing functions for physically ill, disabled, or geriatric residents in an assigned nursing unit and shift.
• 25% Observes, records and reports to physicians, registered nurses, or the supervisory nurse the symptoms, reactions, and changes in residents' conditions.
• 15% Provides for the emotional and physical comfort and security of residents.
• 15% Assists in maintaining working and living areas and supplies in good order
• 10% Assists in providing guidance to nursing assistants relative to nursing techniques
• 5% Performs selected nursing functions in situations which do not require the specialized knowledge and skill of a registered nurse.
• 5% Performs other duties as assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires Illinois license as a practical nurse.

• Requires one (1) year of practical nursing experience.

Conditions of Employment

• Requires ability to pass a background check.

• Requires ability to pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical.

• Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.

• Requires ability acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.

• Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.

• Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.

• Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.

• This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

• Overtime is a condition or employment, and you may be required to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.
