DESCRIPTION

Decypher is seeking a licensed Licensed Practical Nurse to support the military community in Eielson AFB, AK.

Duties:

  • Initiate, perform and complete assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations.

  • Complete assigned patient care based on the patients' conditions, use judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments, and accurately recognize, report and record relevant patient information.

  • Observe, identify and respond to the patient's needs for care, including medication, equipment-assisted care and patient/family education.

  • Prepare and administer prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or intravenous) and perform treatments according to established policies/procedures.

  • Recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations, seek assistance of the RN and/or MD/DO, and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed.

  • Perform support duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized practices or procedures, which include preparing the patient, assisting in the diagnostic examination, preparing and handling specialized instruments or other specialized equipment, and monitoring the patient's condition before, during, and following the procedure.

  • Orient peers and ancillary personnel to unit policies and procedures, skills, and standards of practice.

  • Integrate healthy work environment principles that result in improved patient healthcare delivery, education of patients and their families and employee satisfaction.

Required Skills

Computer Skill Competency:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software. Able to use various programs, such as Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Project to generate a range of products (i.e., tables of contents, import graphs or databases, create glossaries, align multiple columns, print document, identify files or make other notations at the top or bottom of each page, and create form letters and automatically merging these with mailing lists).

  • The contract personnel will also be required to operate the ALTHA, CHCS and any additional computer system as needed for the performance of their duties, with no additional training within 3 months of being trained.

Experience:

  • Experience performing care and treatment of patients; operating and maintaining therapeutic equipment; properly administering oral and parental medications; conducting paraprofessional portions of physical examinations; or assisting in medical treatment of patients in accordance with established procedures and protocols, within the LPN scope of practice.

  • Must have direct hands-on experience in the last 3 years with computer operations, basic word processing, data entry, and use/maintenance of automated electronic medical records is required.

  • Shall have practiced as an LPN performing hands-on patient care in the outpatient clinical setting for at least 12 months within the past 24 months.

Required Experience

Education:

  • Associate's degree or Baccalaureate degree program in nursing and holds current license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

  • Shall have and maintain an active, valid, unrestricted, current medical license.

Skill in setting up, operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers, nebulizers, and other clinic specific equipment. * Performs/assists with procedures such as bladder catheterizations, administration of oxygen, visual acuity tests, EKGs, irrigation of eyes and ears, tympanograms, splinting, phlebotomy and other clinic specific procedures, in accordance with established protocols. * Ensures for proper documentation of procedures and treatments. * Ensures all equipment is properly cleaned and stored at the end of each work shift. * Works closely with and refers patients to the Behavioral Health Optimization Program (BHOP) as appropriate. * Ensures preventive maintenance and routine cleaning are performed as directed.
