This is an open Career Service Licensed Practical Nurse position with the Department of Health in Lee County.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

This Licensed Practical Nurse position is under the supervision of the Nursing Program Specialist at a local county health department. The position requires an understanding of public health nursing and a working knowledge of immunization policies, protocols and schedules the incumbent will assist Family Planning, TB and STD clinics as necessary. This position requires complete and current knowledge of the immunization program including, but not limited to, childhood (vaccines for Children-VFC), adult and overseas, grant programs, and providing outreach services. The employee must maintain current work knowledge and skills based on the Department of Health programs and policies. Incumbent handles protected health information on a need-to-know basis following Department of Health, HIPAA and Information Security and Privacy Policy. Employee abides by State/Federal laws governing health information. Responsible to maintain confidentiality, security, privacy and integrity of protected health information. This position has access to the following information sets: Immunizations. Incumbent may be required to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency operations functions required of the incumbent included but are not limited to Special Care Center.

Assists in providing services in the health department administering routine childhood, adult, communicable disease, and overseas travel immunizations. Accurately completes the necessary immunization record and codes immunizations given daily. Maintains up-to-date childhood immunization information and effectively informs clients of possible vaccines side effects during each visit. Enters immunization information into FLSHOTS and HMS systems. Maintains up-to-date overseas travel information and is knowledgeable of the appropriate vaccines to administer relevant to the area of travel.

Monitors in-house childhood and adult immunizations by keeping a daily inventory of shots given, and providing that information to the department supervisor.

Monitors all refrigerator/freezer that store vaccine insuring property temperatures are maintained and temperature logs are posted and properly used on every refrigerator/freezer. Assists with physical inventory count as needed.

Updates immunization records in FLSHOTS. Follows up with patients regarding the status of transfers, scheduled vaccine completion, and other immunization forms. Monitors and responds to patient requests via email, patient portal, and phone.

When necessary, provides public health nursing services for clients in Family Planning (FP), Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD), Refugee Health, and TB clinics.

Attends all required meeting and keeps current on new immunization schedules and guidelines. Completes weekly leave/attendance records and daily employee activity records (EARs) within required time frame.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Licensure as a practical nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.22 or 8.27

Other job-related requirements for this position:

  • Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

  • Incumbent must possess a valid Florida Driver License and have a motor vehicle to carry out these duties.

  • Selected immunizations or titers and/or periodic screening for tuberculosis may be recommended for this position.

  • This position will abide by all state and federal laws, rules, and DOH policies and procedures.

  • Must be willing to undergo FIT Testing.

  • Required to maintain a current Basic Life Support CPR with AED (BLS) certification.

  • This position is authorized to transport confidential information outside of established DOH-Lee facilities and must comply with parameters defined in DOHP 50-10

  • This position is classified as sensitive. This individual will perform tasks defined as sensitive and handles confidential

information. Background screening is a condition of employment.

  • Successful completion of a drug test is a condition of employment.
