Department Summary

This posting is for a non-employee hourly position. This independent contractor position is not an employee of UNTHSC and is non-benefits and non-retirement eligible.

This Licensed Physician

  • PRN position will be located within the University of North Texas Health Science Center's (UNTHSC) - Correctional Medicine Department (CMD). This position will report to CMD's Clinical Operations Manager or designee.

This non-employee hourly position will be responsible for providing licensed Physician Health Care Services for UNTHSC's Comprehensive Medical Services contracts with the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). These services will be provided on-site and within the secure perimeter of a Federal Bureau of Prisons correctional facility in the Fort Worth area.

Position Overview

This non-employee hourly position will provide licensed Physician services, and will be scheduled on a PRN basis by UNTHSC's Correctional Medicine Department to support the licensed physician coverage needs of the designated Federal Bureau of Prisons facility.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

  • Current licensed physician in the State of Texas or Minimum of 4th Year Medical Resident without restrictions.

  • Completion of all current educational requirements for continuing medical education (CME).

  • Clean disciplinary record (no disciplinary action ever on any state license).

  • Ability to successfully complete and maintain credentialing and security clearance processes at the designated Federal Bureau of Prisons facility.

  • Experience in providing similar health care services in a correctional environment.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

  • Current licensed physician in the State of Texas or Minimum of 4th Year Medical Resident without restrictions.

Job Duties:

  • % - Provide on-site physician health care coverage for the inmate population at the assigned BOP facility. - (Essential)
  • % - Performing complete physical examinations including injury assessments, when necessary. - (Essential)
  • % - Collecting comprehensive medical and social history to include a review of all body systems. - (Essential)
  • % - Performing physical assessment in correlation with historical findings, records preliminary objective findings - (Essential)
  • % - Examining and ordering appropriate diagnostic testing and provides necessary treatment and/or medications as required. - (Essential)
  • % - Referring selected cases to consultant specialists, when necessary. - (Essential)
  • % - Referring inmates requiring hospitalization to a community hospital and to an appropriate admitting physician. - (Essential)
  • % - Making rounds on inmate patients admitted to the inpatient and step-down areas. - (Essential)
  • % - Evaluating inmate patients who are in locked status in their designated housing area or housed in segregation units. - (Essential)
  • % - Provide all other duties as assigned within the scope of their physician licensure to support the clinical operations and health care missions of the assigned BOP facility. - (Essential)
