Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant Acute Care

Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is our system's flagship location with over 1,000 beds to serve our community. We are a level 1 trauma center, transplant center, and provide world class care to patients with a large variety of diagnoses. Our patient population consists of Med/Surg, Trauma, Transplant, Oncology, Stroke/Neuro, SCI, Cardiac and ICU. The Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant 1 adheres to department policies regarding time frame, appropriate form, and content of written rehabilitation documentation. Communicates effectively with patients, family, medical staff, care team members, students, supervisors, and outside contacts. Completes all administrative and other responsibilities in support of the operating unit. Demonstrates essential skill in the use of treatment modalities, equipment, and protocols.

Job Responsibilities:

• Completes daily progress notes that reflect patients' responses to treatment and actual performance as well as an assessment as to status, relevant to the treatment plan, and eventual discharge needs/treatment summaries when applicable.

• Instructs ancillary staff in patient positioning, mobility, and caregiving. Educates patients and/or families in home exercise programs, transfers, caregiving, home safety, and the use of adaptive equipment.

• Documents clearly, concisely, and legibly within established timeframes (e.g. allows other therapists to continue treatment, allows for interpretation by payers, supports reimbursement).

• Includes families/caregivers in education/training as appropriate. Demonstrate collaboration in communication with team members and be open to feedback and receptive to change.

• Contacts families, physicians, or other healthcare team members in anticipation of patient/family special needs in a timely manner to facilitate effective treatment plans.

• Recognizes the need for alterations in the treatment method and overall plan as patients advance or regress and acts accordingly.

• Provides educational materials and methods appropriate to the patient's level of understanding and motivation.

• Selects treatment methods appropriate to patients' diagnosis, age group, and physical and emotional status.

• May perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Virginia Physical Therapy Assistant License in good standing prior to start

• Associates Degree from Licensed Physical Therapy program

• No experience is required

• Must have First Aid, BLS, & CPR Certification from American Heart Association upon start

• Basic computer knowledge and communication skills
