About the program:
The Clackamas ESD Teaching & Learning team collaborates with regional school districts to help improve student outcomes. Educators increase their skills through the professional development, consultation and technical assistance we provide. We also offer an array of contracted services that enhance collaboration and cost savings. The skills and agility of our team allow us to respond rapidly to changing district needs.

About this position:
The school nurse provides, coordinates, and directs nursing care and services on behalf of the district. The school nurse coordinates and delivers a school health program including the delivery of services to students and staff members in order to enhance health and wellness in the school community. Duties are performed in accordance with standards of professional school nurse practice, district/state board of education policies and procedures and state law regarding nurse practice.

Essential functions:
Developing plans for student care based on assessment, interventions, and identification of outcomes, and the evaluation of care
Record and/or supervise recording of appropriate health data on student records
Overseeing medication administration, health care procedures, and the development of healthcare plans
Monitoring immunizations, managing communicable diseases, and assessing the school environment as to prevent injury and ensure safety
Making decisions related to the delegation of healthcare tasks as directed by state laws and professional practice guidance
Designs and conducts related in-service programs for teachers, aides, administrators and agency representatives working in the school setting
Overseeing infection control measures
Ensure compliance with national and local health laws
Serve as liaison between parents, school, and community resource providers in interpreting the results of screening and other health problems
Initiates referrals to parents, school personnel or health resources for intervention, remediation and follow through to Community Resources as needed
Serving as consultants with other school professionals, such as food service personnel, physical education teachers, coaches, and counselors
Providing health-related education to students and staff in both individual and group settings
Participates with team members for the student's Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) and 504 plans, by completing health assessments for initial, annual and triennial evaluations.
Assist with mandated Vision/hearing State screening programs.
Address and reduce health disparities and inequities in schools, and work to increase access, equity, and opportunity for all students.
Serve as a resource person to the school staff in first aid procedures
Evaluate, stock, and maintain individual school first aid supplies and bloodborne pathogens kits
Collaborate with Clackamas County Health Department regarding communicable diseases
Serve as a consultant to school officials in planning and maintaining a healthful school environment including the establishment and implementation of health care procedures and programs

Minimum qualifications:
Registered Nurse through the Oregon State Board of Nursing
Possession of, or ability to qualify for, an Oregon School Nurse license through Oregon's Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC)
Bachelor's Degree (required) in Public Health, Nursing, Nutrition/Dietetics, Social Work, Health Education, Public Administration or other similar field or equivalent related professional experience
Ability to coordinate assignments and work independently, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and confidential information and materials
Written and oral communication skills sufficient to perform essential functions
Physical and mental attributes sufficient to perform essential functions

Preferred qualifications:
Bilingual English/Spanish; written and oral communication skills in Spanish

Salary: Salary based on experience. See the Licensed Salary Schedule. *24-25 School Year will be released shortly. Salary schedule is based on a 190 day work year, and will be prorated based on FTE and total number of work days.

Retirement plan contributions:
Clackamas ESD employees working 600 or more hours in a calendar year are eligible for the Oregon Public Employee Retirement, or PERS. There are two components to PERS, including the pension, which is primarily funded by CESD and The Individual Account Program, or IAP, which is funded by a six-percent deduction from your paycheck. If you are new to PERS, your PERS deduction will begin automatically after a six-month waiting period.
