Position Title: LICENSED PHYSICAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT

Department: Special Student Services

Location: Various locations within Clatsop, Columbia, & Tillamook Counties

Reports To: Program Coordinator

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Salary: Classified Salary Schedule, Range T

FTE: 0.50

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

In alignment with the NWRESD's mission statement, this position provides assistance in the field

of physical therapy under the direction of a physical therapist.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

1.Associate Degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

2.Knowledge of and/or ability to learn equipment used to serve children with orthopedic impairment in educational settings under the supervision of a Physical Therapist

3.Current Oregon Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant license

4.Valid driver's license, vehicle available for use on the job, and accompanying automobile insurance

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

4.Confer regularly with Physical Therapist

6.Maintain professional and technical knowledge by participating in professional development activities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Include the following.

Performs some or all of the following tasks. Other Duties may be assigned. The duties listed below are not inclusive, but characteristic of the type and level of work assigned for this position.

A. Carries out the treatment plan provided by the Physical Therapist

B. Work with individuals or small groups of students with physical disabilities to achieve established goals and objectives.

C. Collect and record student data as directed and communicate student needs and student progress to the physical therapist and the case manager/ educational team.

D. Implement plan of care under the direction of the supervising therapist; responsibilities can include but are not limited to: direct instruction of functional skills; demonstration, training and coaching staff; attending team and IEP/IFSP meetings; fitting and facilitating use of equipment for positioning and mobility; supporting students on field trips and throughout the educational environment

E. Observe and evaluate student performance and report observations to supervisor and other team members as a part of the total evaluation and intervention planning.

F. Maintain written records of frequency and duration of student activities and submit progress reports as directed by the supervising therapist.

G. Maintain equipment, fabrication, supplies and records as specified by the supervising therapist.

H. May bill for Medicaid reimbursement.

I. Provides staff training on proper lifting, positioning, etc., as needed.

J. May supervise PTA students (per licensure guidelines)

K. Communicates with educational professionals and parents regarding student progress and other pertinent information.

L. Cleans and organizes equipment.

M. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
