The Akron Board of Education announces an opening for an Occupational Therapist, Job Code 125, TS 380 (190 Days), Salary Range TBD. Collective Bargaining Unit - AEA. This is a State Teachers Retirement System position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Licensed in the State of Ohio to practice Occupational Therapy;

  • Teaching license to practice Occupational Therapy in a school setting in State of Ohio.

Desired:

  • Experience working as an Occupational Therapist in a public school setting;

  • Physical stamina to perform the tasks required on the job.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

  • Provides an occupational therapy evaluation as part of the required multi-factored assessment;

  • Assists in the development of the IEP;

  • Provides therapy which will improve, develop or restore functions impaired or lost through illness, injury or deprivation; Improves ability to perform task for independent functioning when functions are impaired or lost;

  • Prevents, through early intervention, initial of further impairment of loss of function;

  • The services of an Occupational Therapist may include: functioning as a consultant with the child's parent and school personnel;

  • Attends/participates in building-level or therapy-specific Professional Learning Community;

  • Instructing parents and teachers in the use of techniques and equipment;

  • Assisting in the provision of the specialized and adaptive activities in the prevocational and vocational programs;

  • Coordinates the occupational therapy program with physical therapy, classroom and speech therapy schedules;

  • Reports to the building principal and to the Director of Special Education.
