Examples of Duties

This recruitment is being established to obtain a current eligible list for both Full-Time and Extra-Help vacancies. Extra-Help are not entitled to county benefits and are limited to a maximum of 25 hours per week. Extra-Help pay is $27.62-$33.60 per hour.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Works as a member of a therapeutic team.

  • Monitors behavior and functioning level of patients.

  • Provides psycho-educational materials, information or medication.

  • Maintains clinical records.

  • Prepares progress reports.

  • Administers routine medication orders.

  • Monitors patients' medical needs.

  • May have responsible charge of an intensive in-patient residential treatment facility during an assigned shift.

  • With psychiatric backup, interviews persons to determine need for acute psychiatric treatment.

  • Provides crisis intervention for families and consumers.

  • Makes referrals to other programs.

  • Consults with community agencies regarding clients in crisis.

  • Assists with telephone coverage.

  • Participates in continuing in-service training, supervisory conferences and staff meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

One (1) year of experience providing nursing in a medical or psychiatric setting.

License:

Possession of a valid California license as a Psychiatric Technician, Registered Nurse, or Licensed Vocational Nurse.

Possess a valid California driver's license at time of appointment and maintain.

Essential Functions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Occasionally lift and move with help objects weighing over 100 pounds.

  • The employee shall be physically able to handle a "take down" procedure (restrain hostile/violent clients in a crisis situation) as warranted during the course of perfofrming their assigned duties.

  • Normal dexterity, frequent holding and grasping.

  • Sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.

  • Duties require exposure to patients who may be hostile, violent, mentally ill, and/or who may have infectious diseases.

  • Positions assigned to the Marie Green In-Patient Unit and Crisis Stabilization Unit work shifts and holidays.

  • Regular attendance is an essential function.

Knowledge of:

  • Vocational nursing methods and techniques.

  • Scope and activities of public and private health and welfare agencies.

  • Principles, procedures, and techniques of crisis evaluation.

  • Intervention techniques for mental illness.

  • Psychiatric medication and side effects.

Ability to:

The Clinician will utilize multiple therapeutic techniques (eg: CBT, MBSR, etc.) to lead daily/weekly psycho-educational groups which support competency restoration (eg: anxiety management). The Clinician is the primary clinical staff and also meets individually with patients on a daily/weekly basis to support treatment and facilitate mental stability, as it relates to competency restoration and overall well-being.</p><p>What you bring to the table</p><p>Education:</p><ul><li>Master's Degree with associated licensure as a LMFT, LCSW or related discipline and one + years' experience</li></ul><p>Experience:</p><ul><li>Knowledge of 1370/IST patients and treatment and patients with major mental illnesses</li></ul><p>Licenses/Certifications:</p><ul><li>LMFT or LCSW</li><li>Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA</li></ul><p>Compliance:</p><ul><li><p>Must obtain and maintain security clearance throughout the course of employment.</p></li><li><p>Must pass background investigation conducted by the Company and/or Facility as a requisite for initial and or continued employment.</p></li><li><p>May be required to undergo reasonable suspicion testing for being under the influence of controlled substances, including prescription, legal, and illegal substances, including marijuana.</p></li><li><p>Must undergo security training and orientation on Facility Safety Policies and Procedures.</p></li><li><p>Must follow county facility policies and procedures.</p></li></ul><p>What you will do</p><p>Strict adherence to DSH and company Policy &amp; Procedure (P&amp;P) Manual as it relates to the duties of the Clinician. Hold daily, individual (1:1) sick calls and conduct weekly/daily psycho-educational groups for mentally ill and IST patient-inmates. Obtain medication history, verify current medication, consult with medical provider/psychiatrist to continue psychotropic medications, and discuss conditions falling outside protocol perimeters. Follow Department of State Hospital Policies and Procedures for patient admissions, transfers, and discharges; assist the JBCT psychologist with producing timely court reports; work cooperatively with jail custody staff and JBCT Deputy. Work supportively with the Sheriff's Office team and foster positive relationships between staff and Sheriff's Deputies/Officers. Develop and regularly update treatment plans and participate in a weekly, multi-disciplinary Treatment Team meeting. Facilitate individual (1:1) clinical contacts with patients to support psycho-social progress, as it relates to competency (e.g.: cognitive-behavioral techniques, anger/anxiety management, etc.). Coordinate discharge planning and aftercare plans through available community resources. Document all findings in patient's record providing written summaries of history and treatment course or other documentation requirements as outlined by company and Facility. May assist in the job shadow portion of the interview process of potential staff. May assist in orientation and training of new employees.
