The purpose of the position is to provide direct and indirect therapeutic care to inmate patients in the Correctional Facility. Responsible for performing all work in compliance with all applicable local, State, and Federal laws and regulations.

Essential Job Functions

  • Oversees completion of psychiatric patient clinics; completes psycho-social history reports, and assessments to include individual treatment plans for patients in compliance with all applicable local, State, and Federal laws and regulations and OCCD administrative procedures.

  • Reviews and evaluates patient response to treatment plans; communicates to the Mental Health Director, and the Health Care Team, and implements necessary changes to health care plan.

  • Observes and reports specific conditions, diseases, and treatment therapies for patients.

  • Establishes and develops communications and relations with patient to encourage active participation in treatment plans.

  • Provides individual or group counseling for patients to develop and facilitate patient mental health goals and objectives.

  • Serves as advocate for patients in regard to decisions affecting the health care regiment.

  • Participates in the Comprehensive Quality Improvement Process.

  • Attends and participate in mental health care meetings to keep up with trends, issues, legislative changes and safety. Example: but not limited to staff meeting, confinement meetings, treatment plan and case management meetings etc.

  • Maintains a wide variety of detailed legal records and reports; collects and prepares patient records; prepares medical documentation such as state hospital statistics and transfer summaries, mental health daily population data.

  • Performs duties as assigned/necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position

Minimum Qualifications

Education / Experience:

  • Licensed Florida Mental Health Counselor or Clinical Social Worker.

  • Master level degree in a social field

  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License.

  • Current hands-on CPR certification from American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI)Must have current hands-on CPR.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of mental health medical and psychiatric rehabilitation principles, practices, procedures and systems.

  • Knowledge of the specific conditions, diseases, and treatment therapies for the patient population.

  • Knowledge of the Baker Act; knowledge of the medically appropriate application and compliance with laws, rules and regulatory requirements applicable to the work.

  • Ability to create, initiate, and integrate new concepts and practices to improve patient care.

  • Knowledge of pertinent federal, state and local rules, regulations, ordinances, and other regulatory standards applicable to the work.

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional periodicals and journals, technical procedures, and legal documentation.

  • Ability to prioritize work, organize and make sound judgments in offender supervision both in the office and the field; skill in program planning and management.

  • Ability to work independently in an office and field environment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Skill in interpersonal and leadership communications; ability to communicate professionally verbally, in writing, and in presentations.

  • Ability to deal with people in a variety of changing and complex situations; ability to deal tactfully and cordially with a variety of people from different cultural backgrounds.

  • Capable to work under stressful conditions; ability to analytically observe, and objectively and clearly report routine and non-routine, emergency and non-emergency activities; skill in safe First Aide methods, procedures and practices.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communications with inmates/patients, medical personnel, department management, corrections, and the general public

  • Ability to provide on-call services.

PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Physical Demand: Light

  • 20 pounds maximum lifting.

  • Frequent (up to 2/3 of the work time) lifting, carrying up to 10 lbs.

  • If less lifting involved will require significant walking/standing may be required.

  • If mostly sitting is involved will require push/pull on arm or leg controls.

  • Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word or perceiving sound by ear.

  • Good eyesight for production or safety of self and others.

  • Physical agility is required in kneeling, bending, stooping, and reaching.

  • Required to have clear vision at distances of 20 inches or less.
