TITLE:

Licensed Athletic Trainer

POSITION SUMMARY:

To assist in organizing and coordinating the athletic program in order to deliver Framingham Public Schools' high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic proficiency for all students, and the closing of the achievement gap among subgroups within the schools.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Have a current or willing to get CPR Instructor Certification.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

At least a Bachelor's Degree in the area of major study. Bilingual candidates preferred (Spanish and or Portuguese).

Ability to train, supervise, guide, and instruct the athletes; to be able to motivate and support the team members; to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form; to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups including staff, parents and the general public. To establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community; to work independently, prioritize tasks and manage several projects simultaneously; to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements, state and federal laws, and Framingham Public Schools policies (as long as the policies do not conflict with the Framingham Teachers Association (Unit A) Contract); to work with students of diverse backgrounds with diverse needs in an equitable and inclusive manner that bears to witness to cultural proficiency; to maintain appropriate confidential records; to react professionally and objectively to unpredictable situations (e.g. environmental changes, behavior/aggression, seizure activity, etc.); and ability/willingness to plan, coordinate, conduct and participate in ongoing professional and staff development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain Trainer's room and all equipment required to assist student-athletes in regard to health and wellness

  • Assist in the recovery of sports-related injuries to student-athletes

  • Cover all required sporting events related to FHS Athletic Department, including practices, and attend to any student-athletes who require trainer assistance prior to or after any contest

  • Track all Concussion prevention measures and protocols according to state laws and district mandates

  • Ensure athletic staff is certified in CPR, assist with guidance for basic health, safety, and first aid for coaches

  • Provide Coaches with general wellness guidelines for student-athletes

  • Maintain and track all physical exams to ensure all student-athletes are current

  • Work with district oversight doctor to assist all student-athletes have appropriate resources to recover from injuries

  • Introduce injury prevention methods to student-athletes

  • Serve as an active member of the athletic community in Framingham and act as a resource for our coaches, athletes, and parents.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to run the trails and move throughout the school building, buses, and off site trails. The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time.

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Ability to routinely lift/carry athletic equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools.

Occasionally s/he operates recreation and /athletic equipment with dexterity and in a safe and efficient manner. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person and on the telephone. Indoor and outdoor working environment subject to bending, crouching, and kneeling to assist students; pushing/pulling and lifting of recreation equipment; standing/walking for prolonged periods of time; occasional running and jumping; and reaching in all directions.

The employee will be working in an athletic environment that will occasionally have a high level of noise. The employee interacts with students, parents, other coaches, and staff members. The employee is directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None.

FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) CLASSIFICATION:

This position is classified as Non-Exempt (Hourly).

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Covered under Framingham School Committee Policy. The Framingham Public Schools reserves the right to shorten or lengthen the assignment time based on the needs of the District.
