As an LVN for Aurora San Diego, you'll deliver quality direct patient care under appropriate clinical supervision, to adults (typically age 18 and up) with psychiatric or emotional disorders; to serve actively and constructively as a member of the organizations multi-disciplinary treatment team and support the organizations and adult's psychiatric philosophy of care.


  • Administer patient medications
  • Assist dietary staff in identifying patients with special dietary needs and assuring compliance with dietary orders
  • Completes nursing assignments under the supervision of RN
  • Updates treatment care plans under the supervision of RN
  • Participate in treatment planning, identify patients' problems, needs, and strengths
  • Suggest modifications to treatment plans based on observations
  • Provide input into patient discharge planning
  • Accompany and transport patients as assigned
  • Facilitate patient community meetings
  • Maintain patient, and unit related documentation
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and therapeutic environment for patients
  • Carry out administrative and clerical assignments to support patient care and organizational operations


  • Must be a graduate of an approved vocational nursing school
  • Must have a current California LVN license
  • Current CPR required
  • 1-year Acute psychiatric nursing experience preferred

Ambulatory medical specialty clinics potentially operate between the hours of 0630 and 2100 Monday thru Saturday, requiring adequate nursing support. Learn more about this agency Responsibilities The Medical Specialty LVN/LPN GS-6 assumes the following roles and responsibilities: 1.Participates in performance measure improvement. 2.Administers medications and treatments to patients with complex nursing problems. 3.Provide direct patient care and support for the specified medical specialty clinics. 4.Coordinate care, including patients consulted through Clinical Video Tele-Health and Electronic Consults(non-clinical visits). 5.Assure patients have diagnostic tests prior to appointments. 6.Alert providers (physicians/nurse practitioners) of test results to expedite care. 7.Arrange transportation, home care needs, lodging as needed. 8.Screen patients in clinic and via telephone calls. 9.Schedule labs, procedures, tests, and other services as needed. 10.Educate patients on managing risk factors, medications, procedures, and other medical regimen related to their disease process. 11.Performs other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager. Preferred Characteristics: * At least two years' ambulatory setting experience. * At least one-year minor procedure experience. * Experience working in a critical care or inpatient area (e.g., ED/ICU) * Experience in working in a dermatology clinic, specifically Mohs' procedures. * Experience working in a specialty clinics or special procedures. * Experience in developing projects, improving patient satisfaction, or clinic flow. Successful completion of a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree that included 24 semester hours of courses related to health care or possession of a bachelor's degree; AND Demonstrated KSAs 1. Ability to assist in the full range of nursing care to patients/residents with physical and/or behavioral problems in a hospital, long term care or outpatient setting under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Vocational Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse. 2. Ability to communicate orally with patients/residents, families, interdisciplinary team and other personnel. The distinguishing factor is that patient/resident assignments typically involve more complex nursing needs which can vary within a range of predictable to unpredictable requirements. Physical Requirements: The incumbent must be physically and mentally able to efficiently perform the essential functions of the position without hazard to themselves or others; be able to navigate the facility, write and use a key board and telephone. This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. Employee will be required to assist with transferring/lifting/moving patients, pushing/pulling wheelchairs, gurneys/beds or equipment which may require, stooping, bending, kneeling, twisting, sitting lifting or carrying live weight up to 35 lbs. and walking without restrictions. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. The incumbent must be able to navigate all areas of the facility, use a keyboard, perform CPR (Bart trained) when necessary, and perform other activities of the position without any restrictions.
