Research/Media/Library Teacher

The Stamford School, serving the preK-grade 8 students of Stamford, Vermont, is seeking a creative, organized, and innovative teacher to serve as our Research/Media/Library Teacher. This part-time teacher (0.2 FTE -- one day/week) will encourage inquiry and curiosity in our students and shepherd our older students through research projects. (May be combined with one day/week at both Halifax and Readsboro Schools for 0.7 FTE total if positions still available.)

Our small school is located on the Massachusetts border about 30 minutes from Bennington and has 6 classrooms (preK, K, grades 1 & 2, grades 3 & 4, grades 5& 6, and grades 7 & 8) each currently comprised of 11-16 students per class.

In short, we seek a teaching superhero who is excited and enthusiastic about learning, and who can inculcate our students with that same passion for learning, self-motivation and confidence so they can become responsible, self-directed lifelong learners -- all this in one day a week!

The ideal candidate will have experience in some/most/all of the following:
LIBRARY SCIENCE/LITERACY
Be aware of current trends in children's and young people's books;
Acquire new books, periodicals, and other resources as needed;
Knowledge of literacy supports and reading strategies;
Supervise library circulation system
RESEARCH
Foster curiosity and lead students to follow an inquiry-based process of research appropriate for each developmental level.
Teach research skills and organizational techniques helpful in the research process
Collaborate with classroom teachers to support the research projects within the classrooms
TECHNOLOGY
Working knowledge computing and technology;
Be familiar with current tech tools/apps/websites/resources helpful for student researchers
Teach digital literacy/media or technological skills
MEDIA
Mentoring students in sharing their learning by assisting them with the creation of a variety of media including podcasting, video production, ezines, presentations, publications, etc.
Teach students about ethics of responsible media consumption and creation

May collaborate with core teachers on the following special endeavors to create amazing experiences for our students:
Coordinate guest and community speakers;
Facilitate peer-to-peer tutoring.
Coordinate other special student activities

The Stamford School is part of the Windham Southwest Supervisory Union (WSWSU 049) which encompasses Stamford, Readsboro, Halifax, and the Twin Valley Schools of Wilmington, Vermont. WSWSU creates pathways for our students to become powerful communicators, critical thinkers, and collaborators who use empathy and take responsibility for relationships, lifelong learning, and adaptability in our changing world.

Requirements:
A licensed Library Media Specialist is preferred, however we will consider any interested candidates with experience working with students.
