The City

We are a full-service city comprised of nine departments, that include our own city staffed Fire and Police departments.   Additionally, the city oversees a general aviation airport, a library, and a variety of recreational buildings, facilities, and activities.  As a mid-sized organization providing a variety of services to both internal and external customers, employees are afforded the opportunity to perform varied work within their job classifications.

The Department

It is the mission of the Fullerton Public Library to provide services and materials to meet the educational, informational, literacy, and recreational reading needs of Fullerton's culturally diverse community. It is a place where information and items of recreational, educational, and leisurely interest are collected, preserved, and made available in print and electronic formats.

The Library Department has an administrative Library Board of Trustees appointed by City Council. The Library Department has two fund-raising support groups, which are incorporated as nonprofit organizations: the Friends of the Fullerton Public Library and the Fullerton Public Library Foundation.

The Position

The City of Fullerton is seeking a clear communicating, organized, and detail-oriented person to provide technology support to the operations of the Fullerton Public Library.

Within the Library's Technical Services division, the Library Technology Assistant performs basic troubleshooting for the library's technology, ensures that all technology is in proper working order, creates documentation, and communicates well with library staff members, other City workers, vendors, and the public.

Education/Training/Experience

Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Graduation from high school plus some information systems/computer science course work

AND

Two years of computer-related experience including one year in a library

Special Requirements

Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings to accommodate City needs.

California Government Code §3100 - 3109 requires that all public employees are to be declared disaster service workers and shall take and subscribe to the related oath or affirmation as required.

ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE Applicants must be specific and complete in describing qualifications for the position.

BASED UPON THE INFORMATION PRESENTED ON THE APPLICATION MATERIALS, those applicants possessing the most suitable qualifications will be invited to a written examination, performance examination, oral interview and/or other assessment instrument.

Appointment:

Candidates who successfully complete the assessment process for Library Technology Assistant will be placed on an eligible list for this classification, which will remain in effect for at least one year or until an insufficient number of candidates remain on the list.

All employment offers, including appointment offers to City of Fullerton employees, are conditional based upon the successful completion of a medical examination performed by the City's designated physician, at City expense. Medical exams are administered to assess an individual's ability to perform the physical requirements of this position. In addition, City of Fullerton employees appointed to safety sensitive classifications and all new hires will undergo a drug screen.

All new hires will be fingerprinted. Fingerprints are verified with the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Current City of Fullerton employees may be given preference during the testing and/or selection process.

All new hires, including non-regular City of Fullerton employees appointed to this position, will serve a one-year probationary period. Regular City of Fullerton employees promoted to this position will serve a six-month probationary period.
