Summary

The Library Technician primarily provides circulation services; secondarily provides interlibrary loan, document delivery, and technical services to Midwestern University patrons. As the main customer service face of the library, this individual is a major information point for the whole campus, answering questions from all students, faculty, and staff in person, by phone, and by email. The position reports to the Access Services Manager.

Shift Hours

  • This position works 12 hours per week: Thursdays 8PM to 12AM, Saturdays 6PM to 10PM, Sundays 8PM to 12AM, .3 FTE

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform circulation desk procedures

  • Provide excellent customer service through patron assistance and interaction

  • Make study room reservations using an online room reservation system and enforce study room policies and procedures

  • Maintain the physicality of the library proper including the troubleshooting of computers, printers, copiers, and scanners

  • Straighten shelves and maintain the cleanliness of student study spaces, including but not limited to wiping whiteboards and computer monitors

  • Participate in special projects and complete other duties as assigned

  • Assist Access Services Manager with the development of workflow and procedures

  • Sustain a flexible work schedule, which may include occasionally covering additional shifts as necessary

Education and/or Experience

The individual must have a Bachelor's degree or Library Technical Assistant Certification with 1 year of related experience or an Associate's degree with 2-3 years of related library experience is required. A Bachelor's degree with 1 year of related experience is desired.

Experience working in a team and customer service oriented environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Computer Skills

Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Language Skills

Intermediate skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Reasoning Ability

Intermediate skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Mathematical Ability

Basic skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs.

The position reports to the Chair of Pharmacy Practice College of Pharmacy - Glendale. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Provide administrative support for the department including the preparation of letters, memos, statements, narrative and statistical reports * Coordinate administrative support for courses and faculty needs (e.g. grading, proctoring, etc.) * Organize and maintain confidential files and records * Coordinate faculty candidate interviews including travel arrangements for out-of-state candidates * Coordinate the processing of new Adjunct Faculty members with Human Resources * Initiate letters of agreement/payroll for guest lecturers, Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), or workshop preceptors * Arrange library and/or e-mail privileges for off-campus faculty, if requested * Arrange and attend meetings and generate meeting minutes * Answer telephone calls and forward inquiries to the appropriate department member * Greet all guests when they come to the Pharmacy Practice office * Schedule appointments * Assist with departmental budgets, the completion of expense reports and check requisitions * Arrange for credit card payment of Chair/faculty dues, subscriptions, conference registrations and provide documentation to pay and reconcile payments at end of month * Process E-checks, purchase orders, including book orders for Chair/faculty/department * Process travel approval forms for Chair/faculty (business) air travel, then arrange through MWU approved Travel Agency * Submit reimbursement reports (via Concur – software) for Chair/faculty department-approved travel and conference expense reimbursement * Send and receive materials to and from the Copy Center * Assist faculty with the preparation and grading of exams and schedule exams with the Testing Center if needed * Assist faculty with creating exams in the Testing Software and then coordinating with the Testing Center * Enter and track grades for assignments, quizzes, examinations, attendance, and participation points * Update, maintain and collect data from course-related Canvas materials/Top Hat programs (teaching management software) * Take attendance with specific software within courses * Maintain communications with students and faculty with regards to schedules, presentations, examinations, and newly implemented software and policies * Proctor written exams when necessary * Take and transcribe dictation * Sort and distribute department mail * Maintain office supplies including processing orders online if needed * Coordinate and assist with additional projects and events as necessary * Other duties may be assigned Supervisory Responsibilities This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
