Position Description

Harris County Public Library - LSC - Tomball Branch Library

This position is responsible for the end-to-end customer service experience by connecting customers with the information they seek. Perform circulation tasks. Support innovative programs. Demonstrate knowledge on all library operations and deliver an exceptional customer service experience. Exemplify the high standards and expectations for the library system in its daily operations and services.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide circulation and basic reference service within and beyond our walls

  • Promote library services to the community

  • Accurately enter data, handle sensitive customer information, and handle cash transactions

  • Maintain and promote an engaging and attractive library collection

  • Attend staff meetings, activities, and/or professional conferences, and actively serve on committees

  • Other duties as assigned

  • High School diploma or equivalent.


  • At least one (1) year of customer service experience

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment

  • Ability to work well with public and staff members

  • Proficient with Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)

  • Proficient with the Internet and Office 365

  • Must use your personal mobile device for our Multifactor Authentication process


  • Some duties would require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.

  • Full-Time; 40 hours a week.

  • Typical shifts are Day, Evening, Nights, Weekends, etc.


  • $15.66 Per Hour.

  • Paid Biweekly.


  • This job typically operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. At times, work can be performed in an outdoor environment and possible exposure to inclement weather or various temperature changes. There could be exposure to dangerous or aggressive/adverse populations.

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.

Houston's Digital Literacy Equity Project aims to support the internet adoption and the use of computing devices, including ongoing assistance to identify affordable internet access, device acquisition, technical skills, and application support.</p><p>RESPONSIBILITIES:</p><ul><li><p>Supports the dailyactivitiesofadult literacy providerinstructional staffandvolunteersintheoperationsofthetechnologyspace.</p></li><li><p>Coordinates with the AmeriCorps VISTA digital literacy leaders assigned to this project in support of curriculum development and strategies to support digital literacy access and use.</p></li><li><p>Developsandconductsregularlyscheduledgroupproviderworkshopsonvarioustechnologies, maker spaces, and appropriate connectivity options and broadband assistance programs for clients served.</p></li><li><p>Facilitates workshops for adult literacy provider instructional staff and volunteers on the use of educational apps and software, creating multimedia presentations, and any other production supporting the implementation of the goals of the Adult Literacy Blueprint.</p></li><li><p>Conducts outreach to neighborhood institutions and organizations as assigned by MOAL Director or project manager to promote the project.</p></li><li><p>In coordination with Digital Strategies team, troubleshoots equipment and computer problems; attempts solutions before escalating to DesktopSupportteamorformanufacturerorthird-partyrepair.</p></li><li><p>Working with Digital Strategies team, coordinates software installs, software upgrades and new technology hardware</p></li><li><p>Gathersorcollectsdatatogeneratereports,activitylogs,andrelatedutilizationinformation in compliance with grant.</p></li><li><p>Performs other related duties as assigned.</p></li></ul><p>Applicants are encouraged to submit a Cover Letter and Resume when applying.
