The San Jose Public Library system consists of 23 branchlibraries and one central library. Weare hiring for the Library On-Call (substitute) Page position. Our On-Call (substitute) staff members select their own schedules basedon openings at the various library locations. The days and hours of these shifts will vary depending on the schedulingneeds of the various branches and units. Library On-Call Pages are required to have some evening (until 7pm) andweekend availability.
Library Pages are responsible for providing direct customer service, filingmaterials on the shelves quickly and accurately so that customers can locatethe items easily, providing assistance at the customer service desk, assistingin maintaining an orderly and welcoming environment by monitoring the facility,answering questions from customers in person or over the phone, explaininglibrary policies and procedures, conducting basic searches on librarycatalogues, checking materials in/out, helping customers register for aborrower's card, collecting fines, interacting with and working well with otherteam members.
These positions require pushing or pulling carts loaded with materials;packing, unpacking and transporting shipment boxes; reaching, bending, andstooping to put materials on low and high shelves; actively moving for severalhours at a time, retrieving items from deep bins, and standing for periods oftime.

1.Education: Completion of two (2) years of high school or theequivalent.
2.Experience: No minimum requirement.
Special Qualification: A work permit is required, at the time of hire,for persons under 18 years of age.
