Summary Description
Under the supervision of the Patron's Experience Library Specialist, a Page is responsible for ensuring library materials are readily available and in an organized and accurate order.
No two days are the same at the Urbandale Public Library. If you are looking for a position where you organize and straighten materials, and beautify the library along the way, you might make a great library page! Do you enjoy helping patrons locate materials - this position is for you! This position is a Part Time position and would be approximately 15 hours per week for the summer with opportunity to continue to work throughout the year as a substitute. Summer hours will include weekdays, evenings and weekends based on department needs.
Routine Job Duties/Responsibilities
Sorts and shelves all materials.
Maintains the correct order and neat appearance of the library's collection.
Transports materials to assigned location
Answers customers' directional questions and refers non-directional questions to appropriate staff.
Assists customers with locating materials.
Attends department meetings.
Performs additional duties and projects as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Must be at least 16 years of age
Previous experience working with the public preferred
Previous experience working in a library preferred
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
Effective communication skills
Excellent telephone skills
Ability to work efficiently with little direct supervision
Excellent customer service skills
Mathematical skills including fractions, decimals and percentages
Ability to concentrate in a diverse work setting
Detail oriented
Working Conditions:
Ability to work when scheduled, which may include evenings and weekend hours
Long period of walking
Intermittent periods of standing
Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds
Ability to push and pull greater than 50 pounds
Constant reaching, handling, dexterity, near sight capacity and concentration
Frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, depth perception, field of vision and judgment
Intermittent writing, crouching, talking, hearing and far sight capacity
