NATURE OF WORK

Under the general supervision of the Principal, to assist students, and teaching staff with an enriching library/media center environment with a wide range of reading and other educational materials; maintains library collection at school site; develops appropriate programs for students utilizing library resources; and instructions students and others on proper use of the library resources.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Must have North Carolina license in Media Coordinator (license code 076) and designated as "highly qualified".

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Operates and supervises the media center.

2.Evaluates, selects and requisitions appropriate books, aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.

3.Assists students in evaluations their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data, and works with students in developing education and occupation plans consistent with such evaluation.

4.Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to assist in the selection of books and other instructional materials; keeps students and teaching staff informed regarding new acquisitions for use in the media center.

5.Serves as ready resource to students to provide research assistance.

6.Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloguing all media center materials; assists students and teachers with the use of the system.

7.Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.

8.Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and providing student information to prospective colleges and employers, as required by district procedures and applicable laws.

9.Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.



  1. Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the media center.

  2. Participates in lessons with classroom teachers.

  3. Develops and arranges media center displays.

  4. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.


MINIMUM STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM RESPONSIBILITIES

Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines including computers, typewriters, copiers, facsimile machines, etc.

Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.

Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or composite characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.

Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions, assignments or directions to subordinates or assistants.

Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, articles, manuals, etc.

Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, meeting minutes, speeches, etc., using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Requires the ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence.

Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in Standard English.

Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages; and to understand and apply the principles of descriptive statistics and statistical inference.

Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.

Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using automated office equipment.

Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.

Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with persons acting under stress.

Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear.) Must be able to communicate via telephone.

1.Masterful knowledge of curriculum and best practices.

7.Good technical skills with technology and presentation tools

8.Ability to use common office machines and popular computer-driven word processing, spreadsheet and file maintenance programs

9.Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and statistics and to develop meaningful reports from that information

  2. Ability to exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with the public

  3. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments

  4. Ability to work with adult learners


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Full-time for ten months

Salary based on state and local salary schedules
