Under general supervision, is responsible for operation and general maintenance of the circulation desk and collection and inspection of library materials at the San Antonio Public Library. Exercises no supervision.
This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

Essential Job Functions
Attends to the circulation needs of library patrons, including checking materials in and out and resolving patron complaints regarding overdue items, fines and other circulation matters.
Collects library fines and fees.
Processes requests for reservations of library materials and enters data into the library's automated system.
Provides vital records following appropriate procedures at assigned library locations.
Assists patrons in obtaining library cards.
Prepares and submits statistical and cash reports.
Answers inquiries and refers patrons requiring professional assistance to appropriate staff.
May train other clerical employees regarding circulation procedures and policies.
Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
Any applicant selected for this position must have a background check completed with results satisfactory to the City of San Antonio and successfully complete the City of San Antonio's two-phased Cash-Handling Certification Training.
Experience working with the public.
On-line computer experience.
Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
