Nature of Work
Paraprofessional responsibility for performing technical library services to patrons that includes a range of information focused on Bookmobile services. Work is performed under the general direction of the Public Services Librarian.
Essential Functions of Work
Assists the Bookmobile Coordinator to provide Bookmobile services:
Carrying out the routine tasks of transiting materials from the Main Library and Bookmobile collection; transferring item records in SIRSI system, shelving items and checking items in on the Bookmobile.
Driving Bookmobile on designated routes and to special events as needed.
Receiving and checking out various library materials to Bookmobile patrons.
Managing and delivering holds to Bookmobile patrons.
Recording and filling patron requests.
Responding to Library questions from Bookmobile patrons.
Registering new Bookmobile patrons and updating Bookmobile patron cards.
Receiving and collecting fees from Bookmobile patrons on lost Library resources; including Claims Returned and Payment Plan procedures.
Enforcing Great Falls Public Library policies; including behavior policies and materials policies.
Coordinating with BKM Coordinator to arrange Bookmobile maintenance and repair.
Running reports, sending out patron notices and processing mail.
2.Staffs the Circulation Desk
Receiving and checking out various Library materials to Library patrons
Responding to questions from patrons (in person, by phone, electronic…) regarding the physical location of resources, resource requests and other routing information inquiries
Registering new patrons and updating patron cards
Sending patron faxes
Restocking shelves with new inventories of books, videos and other resources
Receiving and collecting fines from patrons on overdue and lost library resources; including Claims Returns and Payment Plan procedures
Maintaining holds shelf
3.Contributes to making the Great Falls Public Library environment welcoming and inviting place by
Shelving and shifting Library materials as needed
Ensuring that Library public spaces are organized and stocked appropriately
Enforcing Great Falls Public Library policies (including behavior policies, computer use policies and materials policies)
Participating in the promotion of Library programs
Making displays
Conducting routine clerical activities as requested by Library
4.Supports the maintenance of the Great Falls Public Library database, including both patron and material records
Creating reports and informational materials as requested
Reviewing Library applications and completing patron records
Purging records by removing title records of resources that have been withdrawn from the Library collection
Monitoring materials on internal accounts
Updating and purging records as needed
5.Participates in the professional development of self and others. Participates in committees and professional organizations as appropriate.
Education and Experience
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of a valid Montana driver's license.
One year of practical experience within a library setting desirable
One year of Bookmobile driving experience desirable
Requirements of Work

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position does not supervise other employees.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a library environment and includes driving in Great Falls and across Cascade County.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, pinch, grasp, reach, pull and perform similar body movements. Must have the ability to perform moderate physical work and to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at a time; the possession of hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate a computer, typewriter, microfilm reader, printer and copier; the ability to talk and hear in person or by telephone; and the ability to see and read materials.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
The work schedule is a 29-hour, five-day work week, Sunday through Saturday. Schedule will vary and will include evenings and weekends. This position is a non-exempt position and is eligible for overtime with prior approval of the supervisor.
TRAVEL
Involves regular travel in the Bookmobile; primarily local during the business day. Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
