Library Associate - Library & Archives Paraprofessional 2

Permanent, Full-Time

Under the supervision of the Institutional Librarian, this position is responsible for the delivery of library and information services to the incarcerated individuals of the Clallam Bay Corrections Center.

Tasks include:

  • Assists supervisor with the selection of library materials and with periodic weeding

  • Selects appropriate MARC records for new materials

  • Processes incoming materials per established procedures

  • Performs circulation functions, including creating and updating patron and item records, and managing holds

  • Assists with hiring, training, and coordinating the daily work of incarcerated library clerks

  • Processes ILL lending and borrowing requests.

  • Orders and maintains library and office supplies

  • Compiles periodic statistical and narrative reports

Performs bibliographic and information searches and answers reference questions

Tasks include:

  • Searches for, evaluates, and selects material to fill general information requests

  • Assists supervisor with provision of reentry information

Participates in branch library program and assists other branches

Tasks include:

  • Provides technical support or subject expertise to accomplish program goals

  • Works with colleagues on projects for other branches

  • Helps develop policies and procedures for area of responsibility.

  • Attends office sponsored training activities and events

Required Qualifications:

  • Within the past 10 years, one year of experience in a library providing adult/young adult public service.

  • Ability to read and write English language.

  • Ability to efficiently use a personal computer and applicable software to successfully perform the essential job functions of the position.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with OCLC WorldShare interlibrary loan.

  • Experience providing adult/young adult reference and reader's advisory services.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position entails extended periods of sitting and standing, predominantly in a library or office setting where frequent interaction with the public is expected. The role demands flexibility, as it involves working under adverse conditions and adhering to standard business hours from Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, with the possibility of evening and weekend assignments. Some travel is required, with occasional overnight stays within Washington State. Duties necessitate variation in working hours during travel. The primary clientele comprises incarcerated individuals in an adult correctional facility, necessitating interaction with both internal and external stakeholders through various channels such as in-person, phone, and email communications.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Willingness and ability to work within the constraints of the institution and work effectively with incarcerated individuals

  • Successful completion of DOC CORE training must be completed within the first 9 months of employment

  • Must pass criminal history background check
