The individual filling this position oversees and delivers the Divinity Library's Circulation services, offers library tours and library instruction, and provides reference consultations regarding Christianity and its various sub-disciplines. Position reports to the Director of the Divinity School Library.
Performs complex tasks in a variety of areas supportive of the operations of the library.
Coordinates the Divinity Circulation desk and determines circulation policies in conjunction with the Divinity Library Director and counterparts within the larger Duke Library System.
Supervises, hires, and trains student workers. Maintains student worker schedule and determines priorities of work based on knowledge of library needs and section capabilities.
Operates the circulation desk and executes all circulation functions at times when student help is not available or during periods of heavy activity.
Applies specialized knowledge to accomplish tasks and to identify and resolve varied and non-routine issues and problems. Responds to requests/issues that deviate from standard operating procedures through knowledge gained from previous experiences, independent judgment, and by consulting appropriate sources.
Communicates information related to overall library operations.
Plans and delivers library tours, workshops, information literacy training, and bibliographic instruction. Develops online resources (blog posts, library instruction videos, etc.) that deliver the same services.
Conducts reference interviews with patrons.
Checks in periodicals and serials from Divinity subscriptions.
Reconciles Divinity Library invoices.
Attends library related meetings as assigned.
Completes displays, paperwork, and data entry tasks as required.
Runs reports to determine low-circulating items to send to offsite dense storage; organizes the Reference Room and makes suggestions of items/series/resources to add.
Assists library teammates with special archival projects, digitization projects, data entry projects and other one-time tasks undertaken by the library as a whole.
Carries out and performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of the Divinity School Library.

Masters of Divinity (or equivalent advanced degree in theological studies)
Masters of Library Science (or equivalent masters level library/information sciences degree)
3-12 months of work experience in a theological library setting
Comfort with executing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer services and the ability to serve patrons at all levels, including faculty, students, clergy, laity, and non-specialist audiences
Intermediate level mastery of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Power Point
Prior supervisory experience
Advanced level familiarity with Library Automation software, including circulation and copy cataloging modules
Experience with budgeting and/or SAP, particularly modules related to receipts and reimbursements
Familiarity with research databases such as Atla and JSTOR
Basic level of proficiency in Biblical Greek and/or Hebrew; experience with Bible Works, Accordance, or other software programs that rely on some knowledge of Biblical languages.

Required: Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Required: Requires two years of library experience to obtain a specialized knowledge of library systems and procedures; excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; able to work independently and as a member of a team; high proficiency using computer based technology and ability to adapt to new technologies; ability to effectively organize and prioritize daily work; demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer services. Preferred: Prior experience working in an academic research library, prior supervisory experience OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
