The University of Virginia School of Law seeks a Library Assistant or Coordinator to support the Circulation Department within the Arthur J. Morris Law Library. The Library Assistant/Coordinator will support a broad range of library service, operational, and collection maintenance functions. They will also provide significant support for the library through special projects related to catalog maintenance.
The Library Assistant will:
Assist library patrons at the circulation desk.
Fulfill reproduction and digitization requests in support of student and faculty scholarship.
Route library materials within the Law School.
Assist with loose-leaf filing.
Maintain library stacks and common areas.
Manage carrel assignments and clear-out schedules.
Update library stacks signage.
Other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities for Library Coordinator:
Coordinate and schedule weekly social media posts.
Run shelf-reading reports and create and maintain shelf-reading schedules.
This position will be filled at either the Assistant or Coordinator level depending on the candidate's education and experience.
Required Qualifications for Library Assistant:
High School diploma.
One or more years in administrative support services, customer service, or a public service role.
A strong customer service orientation.
Conscientiousness and attention to detail.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Ability to effectively prioritize competing tasks.
Ability to be flexible, navigate ambiguity, and adapt to change.
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to collaborate on team projects as well as work independently.
Required Qualifications for Library Coordinator:
All qualifications for Library Assistant plus:
Bachelor's degree; relevant experience may substitute for the degree.
One or more years of library experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge of Microsoft 365.
Experience with SirsiDynix/Workflows or other library catalog systems (ILS).
Experience with managing a social media presence for a library, business, or other organization.
This is a University Operational and Administrative Staff position with benefits, reporting to the Head of Access Services.
This position requires most work to be performed in person at the Law School, with the opportunity to perform a limited amount of work remotely in accordance with Law School policy.
