Job Purpose
Within this role, the candidate will promote ACPL's values and mission while following established policies and procedures. The purpose of this position is to serve the informational, reference, and reading needs of library patrons of all ages at ACPL. Staff are expected to perform any and all routine tasks necessary to the operation of the library system. This position works under the supervision of the Branch Manager. This position is a full-time, 40 hours per week, benefitted position, requiring one evening per week and weekend rotation.
The best candidate will possess a strong commitment to provide customer-focused service to maintain a welcoming, friendly, and inclusive environment in the library.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions of the Job/Responsibilities
Provides excellent customer service through a full range of circulation desk services, including checking in and out materials, emptying book drop, setting up library card accounts and resolving account issues, locating reading materials, conducting sales of materials and supplies, accepting fees, placing holds, and transferring items
Provides excellent customer service by assisting patrons in the use of computers, personal technology devices, copiers, scanners, faxes, and the library's online resources
Maintains all library resources including print, non-print, and periodicals to facilitate user access
Assists with preparation and promotion of library events, services, and programming
Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned
Assist with maintenance and weeding of library collection
Create or maintain reading lists for reader's advisory for all ages
Position Specific Examples/Requirements of the Job
Assist with the Zoom pass program, including updating pass information and training staff on the program
Prepare and implement library programs
Assist with maintaining library blog and Libguides
Maintain donations and donation area
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Skills & Abilities
Education & Experience
Some college is required. An Associates or Bachelor's degree in any field is preferred.
Flexibility in scheduling is required. This position works one evening per week and weekend rotation.
Proficient in written and verbal communication is required
Ability to work with individuals of diverse populations with respect and equitable service is required
Ability to speak Spanish is preferred
Previous customer service experience is required. Previous library experience is preferred.
Computer Skills
Prior experience with Microsoft Windows and Office applications, basic internet searching, and social media is required
Ability to learn library technology is required
Physical
Ability to stand for extended periods of time, reach the top and bottom of shelves, and lift 40lbs, as well as push and pull loaded book carts is required
Ability to speak and hear at a conversational level is required
Ability to sit, stand, and or walk up to two hours at a time is required
Ability to reach with hands and arms, use hands to finger, grasp, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls throughout the work day is required
Ability to bend, squat, or kneel occasionally throughout work shift is required
