JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Jackson District Library is looking for a Library Assistant for our Youth Services Department. The ideal candidate will enjoy performing a variety of clerical duties, appreciate teamwork, take pride in providing prompt and friendly service to customers of all ages, and have a passion for serving the Jackson community.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves the public through personal and telephone contact, providing materials, information and other services available through the branch/department

  • Assists with programming, displays, presentations, story hours, and other public relations efforts

  • Contributes to the overall effectiveness of the branch/department and the library system

  • Responsible for knowing and following system procedures and policies

  • Performs other reasonably related duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor and other management as required

  • May be responsible for department's operation when supervisor is absent

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED and specialized training such as that acquired in one year of college, technical, vocational, or trade school

  • Ability to sort and file materials alphabetically and numerically

  • Ability to meet and deal with the public in a pleasant, enthusiastic manner

  • Ability to organize personal work responsibilities with minimal supervision

  • Basic familiarity with library operations desirable

  • Ability to calculate and compile simple statistical data

  • Ability to do routine and repetitive work for long periods of time

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull 15 pounds or more as designated

  • Ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with fellow employees as well as with the public

  • Willingness to work day, evening, Saturday and Sunday work schedules

Specific responsibilities include work scheduling of all personnel, establishing work standards, conducting site evaluations, audits, overall inventory/equipment usage, overtime control, employee performance appraisals, troubleshooting/problem solving, orientation, training of custodians and support personnel, customer relations, and special project work as requested. Essential Functions: * Demonstrate quality leadership in meeting performance plans. * Demonstrate and promote company culture, values and management philosophy. * Establish and maintain effective lines of communications with the client and facility personnel to ascertain that their needs and requirements as related to the custodial contract are being satisfied. * Control expenses within area of responsibility. * Develop and recommend custodial operating budget and ensure the department operates within budget. * Evaluate and justify supplies, equipment, and purchases as needed. * Plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and supervise functions and activities of the department. * Establish custodial work standards and flow. * Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies. * Maintain an environment that is sanitary, attractive, and in orderly condition. * Other tasks as assigned Minimum Requirements A High School Diploma or (GED) is required. Must have a minimum of 1 - 3 years of operational experience in managing hourly and supervisory personnel. Prior custodial multi unit supervision required. Requirements: * Excellent interpersonal skills. * Demonstrated proficiency with general business acumen. * Strong service/quality attitude. * Ability to analyze and interpret financial and other data. * Ability to plan, organizes, prioritize, and achieve effective time management. * Ability to work well under pressure and meet established goals and objectives. * Strong public speaking skills. * Sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines; self-directed. * Motivate and train staff. * Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Office, Windows and Power Point * Experience managing custodial/janitorial operations preferred.
