Primary Function:

Responsible for serving as a Librarian and teaching library science K-12. Library Science is the science or art of gaining knowledge and skills required to develop, organize, store, retrieve, administer, and facilitate the use of collections of information in such formats as books, documents, manuscripts, data bases, recorded materials, electronic materials, computer software applications, shared information resources via networks or Internet, etc.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct individual and group sessions teaching library science to students at the K-12 level.

Teach, lead and assist students and staff in the effective use of the library information center including use of equipment.

Assist and provide guidance to students, staff and others on varied research skills and resources.

Collaborate with staff regarding library support for instructional and subject content.

Analyze student and staff needs to determine what information is appropriate and; searching for, acquiring, and providing the information to students and staff.

Develop and direct information programs and systems.

Recommend the selection of library materials and oversee the organization of library materials.

Maintaining an orderly library/media center including, but not limited to, checking out and receiving library materials, organizing and shelving or storing library materials, and collecting overdue materials.

Trains and supervises assistants and volunteers.

Provides clerical and organizational support to the maintenance and operation of the library (e.g. processing purchase orders, all new materials, typing, and filing).

Maintains electronic and non-electronic periodicals, publications, newspapers, and records.

Oversees the operation of computers located in the library.

Coordinates and maintains library computer system where applicable.

Keeps statistical records, completes and submits reports.

Prepare, maintain and update inventory including periodic withdrawals of

materials and also the preparation of finalized inventory report.

Participates in individualized and group educational program planning and other similar activities that supplement educational objectives.

Performs all functions related to the computerized circulation system.

Creates and maintains computerized records for all students and staff and updates regularly.

Organizes and handles all IMS film services and AV materials when required.

Attends appropriate staff, professional meetings, and professional development activities.

Assists with and provides in-service training of school personnel and continuing education of staff.

Keeps abreast of new developments in the field.

Performs related work as required.

Assist in the development of STEM curricula.

Deliver STEM-oriented instruction through project-based learning methods.

Employs a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward curriculum goals and student learning.

Experience in delivering professional development to teachers on STEM initiatives and instructional best practices in the STEM areas.

Works directly with school administrators and staff in the development, implementation, and evaluation of STEM initiatives and curriculum.

Organizes, develops, and coordinates special STEM events/activities.

Initiates new programs that support the STEM vision.

Deep understanding of CSTA standards

Minimum Qualifications:

Valid PA School Library Science Certification required.

Skills and Abilities:

The position requires the ability to read, analyze, and interpret instructions, general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. And the ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedures as well as to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, parents, staff and the general public.

The position requires the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.

The position requires the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only a limited standardization exists.

The position requires the ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory, the ability to plan and implement plans and activities based on district and building objectives and student needs and abilities.

The position requires the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, parents and the public as well as skill in oral and written communication.

The position requires comprehensive knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in the library science field process; comprehensive knowledge of federal and state mandates and school procedures and regulations, relating to library science educational programs.

The position requires the ability to prioritize, organize, and perform work independently.
