Duties & Responsibilities
The Youth Services Manager must be energetic, creative, collaborative, and forward-thinking--working to further connect the Library with the community through innovative in-house and outreach programming. The successful candidate will be results oriented, strategically focused and highly knowledgeable in the area of youth services and educational program development. This position is responsible for the strategic planning, development, and implementation of literacy related programs across a multi-branch public library system. This role ensures that all programs meet the educational, informational, cultural and recreational needs of the community. The position coordinates youth services for the library's main location as well as its four branch locations. The manager is responsible for the following:
Develop and implement a comprehensive programming strategy for all library branches.
Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of library programs, ensuring they align with the library's mission and goals and are designed to encourage lifelong literacy and discovery.
Develop, administer, and implement excellent services for both youth and caregivers.
Develop partnerships with local organizations, schools and businesses to coordinate and expand program reach and impact within the Erie community.
Collect and analyze data on program attendance, outcomes, and community impact; prepare reports for library administration and stakeholders.
Manage and mentor a team of librarians and other staff involved in program delivery.
Identify grant possibilities and seek funding to support the Youth Services Department.
Prepare and manage program budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources and alignment with financial goals.
Prepare and maintain files, records, and reports as required.
Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and regulations.
Stay current with trends in library programming and community needs, incorporating innovative ideas into the program offerings.
Instruct patrons in the use of all library resources and provide reference and readers' advisory, as needed.
Represent the library by attending meetings and conferences as required, and serve as the District Library's Youth Services Liaison.
Serve as manager-in-charge of the Library during evening and weekend hours on a rotating basis
Perform other related work as required

Must possess the following:
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Youth services and strong programming expertise and demonstrable knowledge of library principles, methods, and practices
Familiarity with current trends in library services, education and programming.
Broad and current knowledge of youth literature, audio and visual materials, and electronic resources.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively with diverse community groups.
Proficiency in budget management and grant writing.
Ability to analyze data and prepare comprehensive reports.
Strong search skills in databases and on the web.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to professionally analyze technical problems and arrive at timely solutions
Ability to maintain good public relations

Minimum Requirements
Master's degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program, a Master's degree in an education-related field, or equivalent experience in program management.
At least 5 years of experience in program development and management, preferably in a library or educational setting.
Must have regular access to transportation during the workday to travel to library facilities and partner organizations as needed.
Ability to lift and carry program materials, including books and equipment up to 50 lbs.
