A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this
classification exists is to support the efforts of local libraries primarily in
the areas of children's materials and assistant management of branches. Primary work responsibilities may include:
performing circulation duties; creating and implementing programs and events; serving
patrons and the public; performing collection maintenance, assisting in the
management of a facility; and performing a variety of library-related
duties. The Librarian I classification
indirectly supervises employees and may serve as supervisors in the absence of
a supervisory librarian; however, they do not have final supervisory
authority. The Librarian I classification
differs from the Library Assistant classification series in that Librarian I
incumbents are more involved in the management of an assigned facility. The Librarian I classification differs from
the Librarian II classification in that the Librarian II incumbents serve as
technical experts in a specific library discipline. The Librarian I classification is typically
supervised by a Librarian II, III, or IV.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, English, Computer
Science, Library Science, or closely related degree and one year of experience
performing technical library work such as circulation and collection
maintenance. A Master's degree from an
accredited program in librarianship or school library media may be substituted
for the required experience.

NOTE: Qualifying education,
training, and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and
abilities to perform the job will be considered.
