About the Position

The Librarian performs professional library services in serving the District's adult and teen customers. This position will provide relevant and engaging programming for all age groups, namely children, teens, and adults. The successful candidate will possess enthusiasm and advanced technology skills, along with strong programming and outreach experience.

NOTE: This position is with the Goodyear Library located at 14455 W. Van Buren St. C-101, Goodyear, AZ 85338.

Position Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited school.
  • NOTE: Applications from those currently enrolled in a Master of Library Science degree program and are scheduled to graduate by the end of the current semester will be considered.

Our Preferred Candidate has

  • Public library experience (paid, internship, or volunteer experience will all be considered).

  • Experience planning and presenting programs for children, teens, and adults.

  • Experience assisting customers with library downloads such as eBooks.

  • Experience providing outreach and partnering with community organizations.

Essential Job Tasks

  • Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers using the Library District's Great Expectations customer service model.

  • Uses ILS to retrieve bibliographic data and item status, check customer accounts and place holds.

  • Instructs individual customers or small groups on the use of the PCs, the online catalog, various databases, and the Internet.

  • Conducts group tours, school visits, and community outreach.

  • Plans, prepares, and conducts public attendance programs, such as computer classes, book discussion groups, etc. for multi-generational adults depending on assignment.

  • Assists in the overall operation of the Adult Services areas.

  • Prepares book displays, create posters, create bibliographies, bookmarks, bulletin boards, games, and promotional displays.

  • Facilitates public reading programs/initiatives.

  • Compiles and reports statistics.

Working Conditions

This position works in a library environment. Scheduling is varied, continually dependent on library needs, and often requires evening and weekend availability. The position may be located on a high school campus and involve considerable interaction with student customers. Lifting bins, pushing carts, stooping (to shelve), kneeling (to shelve), walking to assist customers with finding materials, walking to and from staff area to the public space, lifting cash drawers from the safe, moving craft and program supplies from various storage areas to the site of the program in the library and off-site. You may be required to lift floor to waist up to 20 pounds, lift up to 5 pounds waist to shoulder and lift shoulder to overhead up to one pound. This role does require you to be able to carry up to 10 pounds a distance of up to 50 feet and push/pull up to 50 pounds a distance of 100 feet. Selection Procedure

The Maricopa County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates considered to be the most highly qualified. Those selected will be assessed based on the evaluation of listed education and experience. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a list provided by Human Resources.

Typically, successful candidates are hired at a salary rate up to the midpoint of the range, based on relevant experience, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.
