PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Under immediate supervision of the site administrator, coordinate and implement the instructional media program, which encompasses all facilities, staff, materials, and equipment in the school library, audio-visual department, and instructional television studio as well as departmental or classroom resource centers that are established to expand and supplement library services.

MAJOR TASKS:

Administrative

1.Plan and implement the instructional media program's services to students and teachers.

2.Report to and plan with the principal or designate.

3.Write necessary justifications and projects to obtain funds and plan expenditure of same allotted to the program.

4.Assist management in the selection and evaluation of personnel for the program.

5.Plan activities of the instructional media staff and create a professional atmosphere in which media staff work harmoniously and at optimum level.

6.Select, organize, and administer all instructional materials and equipment in the school.

7.Develop and implement a policy of media selection and work with staff in selection of media.

8.Design efficient technological systems to implement the use of media and selection of equipment with assistance of instructional media technician.

9.Organize and control all materials and technological equipment for optimum use in the program.



  1. Organize and implement a process for distribution and accounting of textbooks.

Teacher Relationships

1.Work cooperatively to further the program of media services.

2.Conference individually with faculty.

3.Member of curriculum council and curriculum committees.

4.Member of textbook committees.

5.Plan for inservice education for teachers and staff in the selection and use of instructional media.

6.Serve as an instructional resource consultant and materials specialist to teachers, which includes assisting in the analysis of instructional needs and designing of learning activities as well as assisting teachers and technicians in the preparation of materials to supplement those available through other channels.

7.Make available information about recent developments in curricular subject areas, in the general field of education and in technological advancements.

8.Provide teachers with pertinent information regarding student use of the areas of the instructional materials program.

9.Work with teachers in planning multi-media experiences for students in independent study.

Student Relationships

1.Create a professional atmosphere in which students can take full advantage of the resources and services of the media program.

2.Plan an orientation program for students in the use of the different facilities, materials and equipment of the instructional media program, both on an individual basis in the different facilities and in the classroom as part of their curricular work.

3.Assist students and train the instructional media staff to assist students in obtaining successful experiences in independent work in the different media areas.

4.Promote the use of media to meet students' recreational and academic goals through attractive displays, planned publicity and information programs, creation of learning resource centers and special interest areas, involvement of students in planning and selection, etc.

5.Perform related duties as required.
