The Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) is excited to announce the implementation of the Veterans Placement Program (VPP).  This program is presented in alignment with Governor's Executive Order 19-01 Veteran and Military Family Transition and Readiness Support.

L&I is seeking transitioning active-duty military members, Veterans, retirees, and military spouses to participate in this one of a kind program. The Veteran Placement Program is right for you if you want to:

To qualify as a VPP participant, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Be a currently serving active-duty military member honorably transitioning from active service, within 60 days of discharge

  • Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Space Force, or Marines

  • Or be a currently serving Army or Air National Guard or Reserves member

  • Or be an honorably discharged military member or retiree

  • Or be the spouse of a currently serving military member (all branches)

As a VPP participant, you will be given exciting opportunities to join programs across the agency in a variety of job classifications and locations. All positions will be hired as a non-permanent opportunity, with the future possibility of rolling over to permanent status.

The positions that often become available for our VPP participants are:

Customer Service Specialists

  • As a Customer Service Specialist, you will share equally in the responsibility of providing direct service to customers of all agency programs, as well as providing service to internal staff. You will assist customers with opening of accounts, payment of assessed fees or on accounts, payment agreements, and collection of money, and will seek ways to improve customer service and productivity.

  • Salary: $3,145 - $4,174 / month

Office Assistant 3

  • As an Office Assistant, you will assist supervisors and workers' compensation adjudicators by providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers by answering incoming calls and performing complex clerical support. This position contributes to the state's economic well-being by assisting agency staff in providing workers' benefits to which they are entitled.

  • Salary: $2,940 - $3,883 / month

Fiscal Auditor

  • As a Fiscal Auditor, you will be reviewing accounts and performing audits for customers according to RCWs Title 51 and WAC. You'll also be responsible for communicating audit findings, offering consulting, and educating customers and employers.  In addition, you will work with internal and external staff to resolve audits.   • Auditor 2 Salary: $3,796 - $5,088 / month

  • Auditor 3 Salary: $4,282 - $5,756 / month

Human Resources

  • As a Human Resource Consultant, you will be the first point of contact for our employees and supervisors regarding personnel, payroll and benefits issues.  You'll also be relied upon to collect, review and maintain employee appointment, time and attendance records.  In addition, you will perform payroll consulting duties by assisting with insurance benefits questions, retirement enrollments and other relevant guidance for employees.

  • Salary: $3,974 - $5,341 / month

Depending on the position, telework is dependent upon business needs of the agency and supervisor approval.

For positions where in-office work is necessary, the frequency of telework will be discussed with the supervisor of the position at the time of offer.

Other information

  • A job offer is contingent upon completion of a background check that includes a criminal record review.
