  • Position Summary

  • The Clerical Specialist will act as the liaison between clinical and clerical personnel. Ideally, this candidate would have CPT, ICD-9 Coding, Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial Insurance coding knowledge, as well as knowledge of insurance carrier rules and regulations. This individual must be familiar with laws and regulations regarding OIG, OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, and JCAHO as it applies to hospital owned physician outpatient clinics. The Clerical Specialist must have clear thinking and reasoning ability, must be able to adapt to emergency situations, and must make sound judgments independently.

  • This employee must be able to instill confidence in patients, physicians and co-workers. They must exhibit exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills, as well as maintain a professional presentation in attire and attitude. This individual must ensure adherence to all BMH policies and procedures.

  • Minimum Requirements

  • EDUCATION

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Associates degree in Business Management, Health Care Management or related field preferred.

  • EXPERIENCE

  • 1-2 years physician practice experience preferred.

VIEW JOBS 11/16/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-14T00:00 * Position Summary * This position serves as the front-line patient contact in the outpatient practice with the responsibility for reception of patients and visitors. The individual assures that patient confidentiality is maintained during the performance of all tasks. * The individual is directly responsible for communications with customers, patients and staff including greeting patients, answering and managing incoming calls, timely and accurate message recording and distribution, appointment reminder phone calls, and serves as the liaison to the clinical staff. * Office technology skills required to manage all responsibilities include use of network systems, Meditech, Microsoft Office products, financial programs, and ReDoc. * Scheduling is a primary responsibility with attention to recapture of cancellations, canceling and communicating same, recording arrival time of patients into the waiting room, notifying clinical staff of the arrival of patients, and amending the schedule to work in walk-in patients. * PAS responsibilities include pre-registration and registration of patients, updating patient and demographic information, scanning documents, and collection and posting of designated co-payments and deductibles following receipt of cash protocol. * Record keeping includes preparing initial patient records, processing requests for records, managing fax receipt and distribution as assigned, printing and distributing daily treatment schedules and audit forms. * The successful individual will demonstrate a high tolerance for interruption of tasks, multi-tasking and the ability to refocus to task completion while maintaining a positive and pleasant attitude. * The individual is responsible to maintain reception area in a professional manner. * The position is cross trained to all OP settings and can serve as back up to PFS for Rehab in their absence. * Minimum Requirements * EDUCATION * High school diploma or equivalent preferred, Training in medical /secretarial area preferred. Medical Terminology Knowledge necessary. * EXPERIENCE * Will consider candidates with general office experience though medical experience is preferred. Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to learn medical terminology and patient confidentiality issues. Proven skills in patient relations, and dealing with difficult people, efficiency in processing and registration of patients, strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment, professional telephone etiquette, computer skills and knowledge, basic medical terminology, excellent speech and diction and well-groomed professional appearance.
