Under minimum supervision performs repairs and installs P.M. Cellar operations equipment in one or more areas of the plant; Repair, Installations or Troubleshooting.


  • Installs, troubleshoots and repairs motor control systems.

  • Runs conduit, pull wire, replaces switches, installs electrical panels, trouble shoots (locates electrical problems) and performs a variety of bench work tasks.

  • Provides support for campus power distribution.

  • Maintains satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.

  • Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory consideration.

  • Skilled in repair and troubleshooting.

  • 3 years of experience working in a production/manufacturing facility.

Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program, or equivalent, and two (2) years of journey level experience as an Electrician in an industrial setting performing troubleshooting and a wide variety of electrical/electronic repairs and installation work; OR completion of 60 semester units from an accredited college or university in a related electrical field and five (5) years of journey level experience as an Electrician in an industrial setting performing troubleshooting and a wide variety of electrical/electronic repairs and installation work. NOTE: Seven (7) years of full-time electrician work experience in an industrial setting performing troubleshooting and wide variety of electrical/electronic repair and installation work is accepted as an equivalent to "completion of a State of California approved 60 month electrical apprenticeship program and two (2) years of journey level experience in an industrial setting." The selected eligible candidates certified will be required to successfully pass a Department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint prior to employment with the City of Fresno. Possession of a valid California Driver's License required at time of appointment. Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record. Qualifications Under supervision, Electricians in the Airports Department perform skilled work installing, altering, maintaining and repairing electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures owned by the City of Fresno. Incumbents are responsible for performing tasks in compliance with FAA Regulations as well as communicating with multiple agencies during the course of their duties with an emphasis on preventative maintenance. This position may require incumbents to perform standby duty on a rotating basis, however, employees shall not be assigned to standby duty during periods of approved leave. Standby duty is defined as all time outside of an employee's normal/regular scheduled work shift where management requires an employee to be available to respond to work related problems. One vacancy exists in the Field Operations and Maintenance Division in the Airports Department. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of six (6) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months. Selection Process The examination process may consist of the following: WRITTEN EXAM - 50%: A job-related written examination will be administered which may test a candidate's knowledge and abilities related to airports electrician, maintenance and repair, local and national electrical codes, logic controllers, following written instruction, as well as tool, material and equipment identification. Candidates must achieve a passing score on the written examination to qualify for the performance exam. Of those candidates that achieve a passing score, only the top scoring candidates will be invited to the performance examination. The Written Examination has been tentatively scheduled for the week of May 20, 2019. PERFORMANCE EXAM - 50%: A panel of subject matter experts will be assembled to observe a candidate's ability to perform a set of job-related tasks. The performance exam may consist of identifying tools and equipment used in electrical trades and demonstrating knowledge of their uses; using tools, equipment and instructions to trouble shoot, locate and repair electrical systems and equipment; and safe work practices. Candidates must achieve a passing score on the competitive examination to qualify for the eligible list. The Performance Examination is tentatively scheduled for the week of June 3, 2019. The City of Fresno reserves the right to amend any phase of the examination process should there be a limited number of applicants or successful candidates. Should such amendment be exercised, a candidate's final score and placement on the eligible list would be based upon the completed test phase(s). Veteran Preference Regulations Candidates applying for veteran's preference are required to submit a copy of their DD214 with their application during the specified filing period.
