Lehigh Valley Reads VISTA-UWGLV

All United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley AmeriCorps VISTA assignments will expand capacity towards population level goals across the region. UWGLV strives to create population level change in areas of education, food access, healthy aging and emergency services to ensure individuals who experience crisis have the supports they need to rebound.

The UWGLV VISTA project focuses on strengthening the networks of providers that deliver services to address concerns and through working with UWGLV staff they support the efforts across all four-issue areas. VISTAs address issues at the programmatic and system levels seeking to identify and deal with the root causes by utilizing the collective impact framework. Member Duties : The Lehigh Valley Reads Backbone Support VISTA will oversee the coordination, operations and serve as a liaison of a community-wide coalition for the local Campaign for Grade Level Reading, Lehigh Valley Reads. The VISTA member will play an integral role with the LV Reads Steering Committee, National Campaign for Grade Level Reading and other communities in uniting to improve students' academic success.

The VISTA will work with in and out of state partners to know what work is being done in other grade level reading communities and share best practices with LV Reads Steering Committee. The VISTA will work on a LV Reads data research project that will look at collecting and compiling state and national data points and indicators relevant to grade level reading. The VISTA will work with the UWGLV and PBS39 education team and build a support mechanism for sharing and receiving information about all the work going on in the local community.
