This position will perform duties within Council's Communication Office. Candidates for this position should have a considerable experience with organizing public events and interviews, public speaking, writing speeches and press releases, and scheduling and conducting interviews.
Candidates should also demonstrate a strong research background and knowledge of community and government affairs and current events. Candidates should possess excellent analytical, communication, and writing skills. A graduate degree in Communications or a related field, along with government-related work experience, and knowledge of Columbus City government is preferred.
A person who has been selected by an appointing authority in accordance with the Columbus City Charter, Section 148(1) is said to have received an unclassified appointment. Those individuals receiving unclassified appointments serve at the pleasure of their appointing authority and may be terminated from employment at any time. Under direction, is responsible for initiating and coordinating special assignments, projects, and reports in support of City Council and/or City Clerk; performs related duties as required.
Examples of Work

Oversees and maintains the citywide Legistar database and all related electronic files including ordinances, resolutions, agenda, minutes, documents, public notices, appointments, and communications of the City Clerk;
Serves as liaison to City employees from all departments as primary contact person to resolve all matters relating to special permissions, maintenance, software updates, and troubleshooting technical problems pertaining to the Legistar database;
Conducts training classes on software programs;
Compiles, formats, and proofs the weekly City Bulletin and annual reports using professional desktop document publishing software;
Prepares agenda, legislation, public notices, journal/minutes, and principal party reports for City Council including responsibility for posting items to Council's website using software required by the Department of Technology;
Prioritizes phone calls, correspondence, and inquiries that must be handled by the supervisor and ensures essential matters are handled in the absence of the supervisor; relays critical information to the supervisor;
Coordinates travel arrangements for elected officials and City Clerk;
Finalizes appointments for elected officials; coordinates details for meetings and conferences;
Takes, transcribes, and distributes verbatim minutes of meetings, boards, and hearings.
