Position Summary:

Samsung SDS plays a leading role in the global logistics market with unique logistics services. With its innovative IT technology, SDS developed the integrated logistics solution called Cello in 2010, started its logistics business in 2012 and expanded its logistics business with Business Process Outsourcing.

As Legal Counsel, you will be a part of Legal & Compliance team, and provide accurate, relevant, and timely legal support to various business stakeholders of the companys Smart Logistics (SL) business. This position will draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts in the context of supply chain and logistics services. This position will also manage and mitigate legal risks by ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations that apply to the business, and promote legal, compliance, and risk management best practice throughout the company. Qualified candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills, liaising with any third-party bodies (such as outside counsel, auditors, insurance carriers etc.) as well as reporting to senior members and companys executives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contract drafting, review, and negotiation
  • Provide accurate, relevant, and timely legal counsel on a range of legal and/or compliance issues
  • Analyze legal issues, make timely decisions based on logical assumptions using all available information, and recommend best course of action
  • Assist internal stakeholder with contract negotiation and RFP reponses
  • Perform legal analyses and make practical recommendations on risk mitigation
  • Communicate with and cmanage any third-party bodies such as outside counsel, auditors, insurance carriers, etc.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes to legislation, particularly in relation to laws, rules and regulations that directly affect SL business, such as Carmack Amendment, Ocean Shipping Reform Act 2022, and the like
  • Work across time zones and cultures with a cross-functional group of stakeholders
  • Support handling claims and drafting demand letter
  • Design and deliver legal training to the business
  • Assist HR with EEOC/Workers Comp/unemployment claims, policy updates, etc.
  • Assist with ad-hoc projects and other legal research as requested, including corporate governance, joint venture, employment and litigation
  • Perform other duties as needed

Requirements

  • Qualifications & Skills:
    • Must have J.D. from ABA-accredited law school
    • Admitted to practice law in at least one state within the U.S. (preferably, California or Texas), active member in good standing
    • At least three (3) years of legal practices at a law firm and/or corporate law department
    • High energy to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain a sense of urgency
    • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Demonstrate a business-friendly approach to legal problem solving and able to provide practical advice as well as creative solutions
    • Effective problem solving and decision-making ability
    • Able to multi-task
    • Able to travel up to 20% in U.S.
    • Possess exceptional attention to detail
    • Bilingual (Korean) preferred
    • Working knowledge of inbound/outbound transportation and warehouse management, as well as logistics in general is a plus
    Physical Demands: The position requires the ability to talk and hear while performing the duties of this job. The position requires the ability to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The position requires dexterity to write and use computer keyboard and mouse. The position requires multitasking and solving complex issues, occasionally in a fast-paced environment. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products, materials and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
