The Position

Legal Secretaries perform specialized secretarial duties for attorneys, administrative law judges, and/or hearings officers.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

This position will serve as assistant to a Hearing Officer/Appeals Officer for the Hearings Division. Under direct supervision the incumbent will: act as liaison to the public, attorneys, and employer representatives; perform all clerical and administrative duties as may be necessary; maintain Hearing Officer/Appeals Officer calendar and appointment scheduling; receive and process mail, handle calls and inquiries from parties and the public; review and prepare draft responses to inquiries and other correspondence; prepare statistical reports; maintain records, files, meeting notes, legal research and draft memorandums; review bill drafts and other legislative notices and documents; setup, review, and finalize decisions, dismissals, and/or orders; provide backup clerical support to Appeals Officers and Hearing Officers; organize and prepare documents for the Hearing Officer/Appeals Officer to use in meetings, and presentations.

To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of clerical experience, two of which were performing progressively responsible legal secretarial work in a training capacity; OR one year of experience as a Legal Secretary I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes An Associate of Science degree with a legal secretarial emphasis is equivalent to one year of legal secretarial trainee experience. Completion of a legal secretarial diploma program from an accredited business college is equivalent to one year of legal secretarial trainee experience.

This position will work on Army National Guard facilities, and the incumbent will perform landscape duties such as planting, pruning, mowing, trimming, watering, fertilizing and weeding; snow and ice prevention and removal; and operate hand and power tools, power mowers, tractor mowers, trenching devices, forklifts, hoists, and scissor/boom lifts. The incumbent will need to have a valid Nevada Driver's license if hired. The incumbent will also be required to read, write and speak English to ensure ability to read labels and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and maintain a pesticide usage log by entering in identifying numbers.
