The Position

Legal Secretaries perform specialized secretarial duties for attorneys, administrative law judges, and/or hearings officers.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

This Legal Secretary II position will support the Chief of the Public Safety Division and a Senior Deputy Attorney General. This position is for a highly skilled legal secretary who is experienced in preparing appeals in both federal and state courts and working in a fast-paced environment with knowledge of the various court rules and procedures, including electronic filing in all courts.

This position also entails administrative responsibilities assisting the Chief of the Public Safety Division including excel reports, calendaring and travel arrangements among other things. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of clerical experience, two of which were performing progressively responsible legal secretarial work in a training capacity; OR one year of experience as a Legal Secretary I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes An Associate of Science degree with a legal secretarial emphasis is equivalent to one year of legal secretarial trainee experience.

Completion of a legal secretarial diploma program from an accredited business college is equivalent to one year of legal secretarial trainee experience. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.

Multiple positions are located in the Mechanical Compliance Section with the Department of Business and Industry, Division of Industrial Relations in Las Vegas, NV. This recruitment is an under fill for a Safety Specialist, Elevator position. Upon meeting the minimum qualifications, satisfactory performance, and with the recommendation of the appointing authority incumbent may progress to the Safety Specialist level. Selected candidates will learn applicable codes to perform jurisdictional inspections and perform required data entry. They will also conduct inspections of elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters, moving walks, personnel hoists, and related equipment. Incumbent may be required to use their personal vehicle to conduct state business. Working shifts other than a normal shift may be required, including weekends. Special Notes For the Safety Representative, incumbents must obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Elevator Inspector's Certificate of Competency within twelve months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Special Requirements A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
