JOB SUMMARY:

Organize activities related to the recruiting and hiring of lawyers (entry level, lateral, and non-partner track career attorneys) and assists with other recruitment initiatives as required. Assists the Legal Recruiting Department leadership including the Director of Legal Recruiting and local Legal Recruiting Manager and works with other Legal Recruiting staff on all matters related to hiring.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the Legal Recruiting Manager and Practice Group Leaders (PGLs) with lateral associate, career attorney and technical advisor recruiting initiatives including drafting job postings, reviewing and processing resumes, identifying and presenting qualified candidates to the PGLs, organize interview schedules, collect and synthesize interviewer's feedback, generate offer letters, submit conflict and background checks paperwork and organize local orientation logistics.

  • Serve as liaison with legal placement agencies and/or prospective candidates from the initial screening stage through employment decision stage.

  • Support the on-campus recruiting process, including hosting hospitality suites, preparing materials needed for call back meetings, scheduling callback interviews, track and follow-up with attorneys for evaluations, assist manager in organizing agenda materials for local office hiring partner meetings, updating legal recruiting database and coordinates appropriate communication to candidates regarding their employment status.

  • Continuously keep on-campus interviewing lawyers apprised of the status of their call back candidates.

  • Help to organize outreach initiatives, including attending and engaging candidates at 1L recruiting receptions designed to market the firm.

  • Network and partner with career services personnel and faculty to raise firm's profile.

  • Support the execution of the local office summer associate program including logistical planning, work assignment tracking, preparing for mid-summer and end-of-summer evaluations, organize and attend summer program social events and other duties associated with the summer program as assigned by the Legal Recruiting Manager.

  • Assist with the administration of annual survey requests, including Vault and AmLaw.

  • Under the direction of the Legal Recruiting Manager, provides updates to the hiring web site and recruiting print materials.

  • Using the legal recruiting database (LawCruit), generate recruiting reports and statistics.

  • Represents the firm through membership at local legal recruiting organization (NYCRA); stay current of evolving developments in recruiting field.

  • Conducts market research with peer firm representatives as requested.

  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Legal Recruiting Manager.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred

  • Three - five years of executive recruiting or attorney professional development experience at a mid-sized or large law firm, career services or other professional services industry is preferred

  • Proficiency in the use of computer programs including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with database programs (e.g., LawCruit, Symplicity); advanced social media (LinkedIn etc.) and web-based programs skills are highly desirable

  • Excellent written and oral communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to recognize confidential information and to maintain confidentiality of such information.

  • Ability to work efficiently independently as well as within a team

  • Highly-motivated with strong initiative skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is an exempt position. Incumbent is expected to work the hours necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Some travel will be required.

VIEW JOBS 10/11/2019 12:00:00 AM 2020-01-09T00:00 Job Description Role Summary Shearman & Sterling's Director of Legal Recruiting is responsible for developing strategies to further the firm's legal talent recruitment initiatives. The Director will oversee the hiring of summer associates, entry-level associates, lateral associates, international associates and legal assistants. In collaboration with the larger Legal Talent team and the Recruiting Committee, the Director is expected to think strategically about recruiting initiatives and best practices for achieving the firm's goals. The Director will report to the Chief Diversity and Talent Strategy Officer and will have six direct-reports in NY and some regional recruiting support to oversee Key Responsibilities * Maintain a robust understanding of the firm's practice areas, industries, brand, markets, global strategy, and lateral-hiring objectives * Work with the Legal Talent team and Recruiting Committee to develop both short and long term strategies to help the firm achieve its goals * Oversee student recruitment efforts including campus relations outreach, partnering with career services, student group sponsorships, on campus and callback interviews, preparation and execution of the summer associate program, in addition to undergraduate recruitment for the Legal Assistant Program * Collaborate with the Legal Recruiting team to coordinate participation in the LL.M. job fairs to build a pipeline for the International Associate Program * Oversee lateral recruiting efforts including strengthening relationships with headhunters, thinking creatively about sourcing talent and ensuring the firm attracts and hires impressive and diverse candidates * Liaise with all relevant departments to achieve seamless onboarding and integration of new hires, including office services, technology and training, payroll, work authorization/visa acquisition (if applicable), etc. * Manage and provide direction to the larger recruiting team, including delivering ongoing feedback to aid in professional development and to ensure top performance * Ensure the team maintains thorough and accurate data so the department can provide detailed reports and an analysis of recruitment trends to the Recruiting Committee and other key individuals * Work with HR/Recruiting contacts in non-New York offices to ensure accuracy and cohesiveness in the recruiting process * Develop innovative and creative ways to disseminate the firm's recruiting message, including helping with the creation and maintenance of the recruiting website, brochures and other collateral * Maintain consistent communication with the recruiting committee and lead committee meetings to discuss matters ranging from OCI prep and interview training, to the final review of summer associate performance and offer recommendations * Prepare and manage the budget for recruiting initiatives and the annual Summer Associate Program * Collaborate with Professional Development and Diversity & Inclusion teams on a range of programs and responsibilities that span the Legal Talent function * Stay abreast of changes in the industry and share competitive market intelligence such as hiring data and potential opportunities that could contribute to the firm's growth * Maintain other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills & Abilities * Exhibit a client service mindset, and a commitment to inspiring and empowering the larger team * Strong ability to collaborate and engage with lawyers, students and business services professionals * Must be a creative problem solver and possess a high level of self-confidence, maturity and excellent judgement * Strong ability to maintain highly confidential and sensitive information * Exhibits a professional demeanor at all times and handles difficult situations with poise and diplomacy * Takes ownership of matters to drive towards a successful result, but also collaborates with the team to foster discussion and consensus * Exceptionally strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize a number of responsibilities, while maintaining accuracy * Excellent written and oral communication skills – including the ability to tailor the communication style to a specific audience * Knowledge of the legal market and industry trends is important, as is a willingness to learn Education & Experience * A minimum of ten years of prior attorney recruiting experience at a law firm * A bachelor's degree is required * Must be technically proficient in a wide variety of software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, Workday, viRecruit).
