Job Description:

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

Thomson Reuters is currently seeking motivated law students to work on legal research and content projects within our Practical Law team. Under the supervision of project leaders, these Legal Interns will conduct legal research, engage in quality assurance review of new content and linking, assist with quality assurance of legal-oriented marketing content, analyze and summarize changes to primary law, prepare and process legal agreements, and provide additional support to teams creating and maintaining Practical Law content on WestlawNext.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

  • Completion of first or second year of ABA-accredited law school.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.

  • Ability to interpret, analyze, organize, and express complex legal material quickly and accurately.

  • Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently, consistently meet deadlines, and achieve individual objectives within larger team projects.

  • Experience using WestlawNext and Microsoft Office products.

Schedule:

  • 10-20 hours per week at onsite location in Eagan, MN or New York, NY during school terms, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer and while on breaks.

We want to re-center the company around customers; operate with greater speed; and retain, recruit and develop the best talent. We are now looking for a VP – HR for the Legal customer market segment. This role will be a strategic partner and advisor to the Legal Professionals leadership team and connect talent levers to business outcomes. The candidate for this role should be a highly strategic leader with a strong execution mindset. The incumbent should be a role model focused on enabling innovation and driving change with a sharp business focus and growth mindset. This senior position will report directly the Chief People Officer and be a member of the People Leadership Team. The role requires strong business acumen and expertise, the ability to build relationships and influence business leaders and global peers, advising on and driving large scale organizational change. The ideal candidate will have experience partnering with leadership on talent development initiatives and the strategic people needs of a global business. Key responsibilities include: HR STRATEGY: * Develop the people strategy and plan for the Legal customer market segment based upon the broader Thomson Reuters HR strategy and business goals. * Lead and execute the global implementation of the HR strategy and plan. * Provide input to broader TR HR policy and strategy, drawing on the business strategy, HR priorities, and knowledge, experience, and expertise. * Brings external perspective on competitive people landscape, including trends to which we must respond, cutting-edge practices, etc. * During periods of change, helps lead and mobilize transformation efforts, determine operating model and design in support of business goals and strategy. * Use data & analytics to inform strategies and focus change efforts BUSINESS PARTNERING: * Act as a trusted advisor, coach, and consultant for senior leaders and leadership teams to improve their leadership capability, team effectiveness, strategic insight, and business performance. * Play an integral part of Legal customer market segment leadership team, having the credibility and business knowledge to be consulted and to actively contribute to overall business decisions. * Works in tandem with segment leaders to translate Thomson Reuters customer market strategy into a clear People strategy, with emphasis on strategic workforce planning and understanding current and future Talent needs, including skill gaps and upcoming areas of investment that will enable the organization to drive long term value. * Partners with and coaches leaders on how to promote engagement and commitment by delivering a talent-first employee experience across customer segments and sub-segments TALENT: * Use talent initiatives to embed a talent and learning culture and mindset into the Legal customer market segment, building knowledge and networks of talent and promoting the flow of talent across and within other business units. * Strong focus on identifying, growing, engaging and retaining key talent. Strengthen and build the talent pool through comprehensive talent management including succession planning, talent flow and career management. * Coach leaders on effective management of their talent including career and development planning. * Engages with leaders to identify current and future (3-5 year time horizon) top Talent needs/ areas of focus over, translates these needs into discrete projects and initiatives that enable the organization to drive long term value. ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT: * Interpret the business strategy to deliver the strategic workforce plan in collaboration with key stakeholders that is fit for purpose for both the short- and long-term. * Uses knowledge of the external market to identify future capabilities against industry trends to design and execute the workforce plan including developing the employee experience of work REWARD: * Implement Reward framework within the customer market, adhering to the required governance and controls and engaging with Reward colleagues to design business specific or local reward plans where they are required to meet critical business needs (e.g. local incentive plans). HR FUNCTIONAL LEADERSHIP: * As a member of the People Leadership Team, contribute to the formulation of the HR strategy, mission and objectives, and collaborate with HR colleagues to implement cross-business unit initiatives. * Working with peers to develop a high performing team of business-aligned HR resources, building business knowledge and HR capability through formal learning, coaching, and on-the-job experiences. * Contribute to the broader HR function by sharing knowledge and experience informally or through participation in project teams. Enhance the reputation of HR function, and build individual capability, through participation in external professional networks. COMMERCIAL AND GROWTH MINDSET * Understands the enterprise strategy and on-going transformation of our business through staying current on latest trends, both internally and externally, that are relevant to our industry and our profession, brings back best practice to implement. * Recognizes where the business can create new value and actively seeks out external research and insight on innovation that can help educate employees and leaders to inspire and spark creativity. * Develops professional network both internally and externally, including regularly attends external events to promote Thomson Reuters. Qualifications: * Degree and/or Masters in HR or business highly regarded, MBA preferred Required Knowledge & Skills: * In-depth experience with HR strategy and experience in customer-facing roles, or in market itself * 15+ years of experience in HR, with a minimum of 5+ years as HRBP and 5+ years in management role; consulting, business or financial background is a plus * Strong personal credibility with ability to build trusted relationships with senior business leaders * Excellent consulting skills, with ability to influence senior stakeholders and work with business to establish HR actions and metrics to meet strategic objectives * Experience in OD and change management, ideally leading and managing complex, large scale, global change activity * Strong, credible manager and coach, seen as a talent magnet and developer * Strong track record of delivery of complex multi-discipline change programs, including culture change * Highly collaborative, with ability to work in partnership with broader TR HR community * Superior communicator at executive and senior management level * Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate technical HR information clearly and concisely and to craft creative and engaging narratives that engage leaders and employees * Ability to give feedback and coach business managers and be a role model for business managers. * Innovative ability to customize HR solutions and to create HR solutions. * Considerable experience deploying best in class talent management processes and approaches including identification of high potentials, career development, and talent acquisition. * Track record using employee engagement survey tools to develop and deliver employee engagement actions across complex employee base. * Demonstrates learning agility; continuously developing skills and knowledge to ensure HR's relevance including being digital savvy, ability to engage with trends and complexity and adapt and evolve thinking as required, develops agility in scanning for, and assessing risks and opportunities * Data acumen; ability to gather, evaluate and interpret data that helps to drive the people and business strategy * Systems thinking and understanding; has the mindset and thinking skills necessary for leading change in complex systems Confident and resilient in personal contribution and action At Thomson Reuters, we believe what we do matters.
