Executive Office For Immigration Review Falls Church , VA 22040

This position is located in Falls Church, VA, at the BIA. The BIA's primary mission is that of producing authoritative administrative case law in the form of BIA decisions, interpreting the immigration laws and laying down guidelines for the exercise of the Attorney General's delegated administrative discretion. In addition, the BIA has appellate jurisdiction over essentially all decisions of Immigration Judges and certain decisions of DHS officers.


As a Legal Instrument Examiner, your duties at the full performance level will include, but are not limited to the following:
Perform initial and continuing review of a large variety of complex legal documents.
Assess and correct litigation case files for completeness, deficiencies, or other legal requirements.
Conduct extensive searches of records, references, or historical material to obtain needed information before sending on to the attorney.
Conduct legal and process analysis of patterns and trends to ascertain fundamental fairness in case processing.
Organize and coordinate the technical work of staff members, oversee the orderly delivery of services, and promote efficient operations of the office.
Monitor the status, quantity, and quality of work and assist the supervisor to evaluate overall production results by the team.
Plan, schedule, and work on a variety of problem cases causing production delays and other quality issues.
Utilize and operate a case tracking system. Incumbent will perform the following additional duties at the GS-9 level:
Assist the supervisor in the preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly reports; identify staff training needs; and plan, conduct and evaluate on-the-job and classroom training for unit employees.
Assist in development, review and update of standard operating procedures.

In order to qualify for the Legal Instrument Examiner position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:

To qualify for the GS-8 level, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service that include: 1) utilizing automated legal databases to search for legal citations and statutory references; 2) organizing factual, legal and archival records; 3) providing assistance to attorneys in providing case documentation; and 4) maintaining litigation or other case-related databases for management of case.
Must be reflected in resume.

To qualify for the GS-9 level, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level in the Federal service that includes: 1) utilizing automated legal databases to verify legal citations and statutory references; 2) analyzing and organizing factual, legal and archival records; 3) providing assistance to attorneys in preparation for case adjudication; and 4) creating and maintaining litigation or other case-related databases for management of case materials.
