Textron Systems' Legal Development Program is a 2-year rotational program designed to grow legal professionals by rotating them through a series of diverse assignments meant to broaden their technical capabilities and/or business acumen, and increase collaboration across the organization. Participants in the Legal Development Program will have two rotational assignments throughout a 24 month program commitment.

Participants should have no more than three years of experience at Textron Systems and should be currently based at, or be willing to move to, the Hunt Valley, Maryland campus. Participants will be under the guidance and leadership of the Textron Systems SVP General Counsel or other General Counsel.

The rotations will be in individual contributor, salaried positions within the following areas of the Legal Department Legal (Gov't Contracts) and Export/Import Compliance. Participants will also complete project-based work to increase their knowledge-base within the legal department.

Each participant's experience will be unique and personalized based on their career interests and business needs and they should expect to build a strong professional network through their rotations.

The Legal/Contract rotation will provide exposure to a broad array of hands-on opportunities in the areas of U.S. Government contracts (e.g., FAR Part 15 and 12), related subcontracts, commercial contracts, litigation/disputes, facilities/leases, intellectual property, NDAs, regulatory audits, contract negotiations, legal training, employment/labor, ethics & compliance, and/or other areas to meet business needs. Responsibilities will include identifying risks and providing subsequent mitigation strategies, supporting complex transactions and providing expertise in the areas referenced above.

The Export/Import Compliance rotation will proactively handle export/import compliance matters for AAI Corporation as assigned. The successful candidate will interact with employees at all levels and will work both independently and with other members of the Legal, Contracts and Compliance Department staff on a variety of interesting international trade compliance matters. This role requires successful management of a broad range of responsibilities in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.

Successful candidate will work directly with her or his business counterparts, other legal and compliance staff, and the Textron Systems General Counsel.

The successful candidate must be approachable, have excellent communication skills, and be a business partner.

The successful candidate will function as a member of the Textron Systems legal department in Hunt Valley, MD.

  • Law degree from an accredited nationally recognized law school (undergraduate business degree, MBA, and/or LLM Government Contracts a plus)
  • Bar license is not required to participate in the program, however, in order to repatriate into an attorney position, candidates must have a bar license in good standing

The Clerical Assistant acts as the receptionist for the office and will be expected to communicate with the attorneys, their clients, business partners, courts and opposing counsel in litigation matters; The ideal candidate will enjoy a high-volume, paperless environment that is both dynamic and rewarding. Responsibilities: * Utilize/ maintain office equipment, manage electronic files and work with large volumes of documents, make copies upon request and other duties as assigned * Sort, open, stamp and deliver mail and faxes to and from workstations and the mail receiving area, process outgoing mail using appropriate equipment and maintain the postage machine; * Preparation and assembly of document packages; including the scanning of evidence. * Assist with overflow work as needed in addition to locating, pulling and distributing file materials and information as well as maintaining office files, maintaining the master calendar and to make copies upon request. * Calendaring of court appearances and related events; and will be expected to ensure that form letters and templates are used correctly as needed. * The Clerical Assistant will be expected to communicate effectively with attorney requests from all offices * Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically, Outlook, Word, and Excel. * Effectively manage multiple projects, use time management skills and independent judgment in a high volume environment. * Demonstrated efficiency, productivity, and attention to detail, strong organizational skills and accuracy. * Basic knowledge of legal terminology and litigation will be helpful. * Must have prior calendar experience. * Ability to work on strict and short deadlines; able to set priorities and deal effectively with shifting priorities. * Ability to work with confidential/sensitive information and use diplomacy in written/verbal communication with internal/external clients.
