Legal Counsel at Checkout.com
Checkout.com is seeking a talented Legal Counsel with a strong commercial background and contract negotiation experience to join our Legal team. The Legal Counsel will also be expected to advise on regulatory matters including compliance with regulations as well as to produce and/or maintain a variety of internal policies and compliance related documents. As Legal Counsel you will work closely with all areas of the business and take a consultative and collaborative approach to solving complex legal, regulatory and business issues.
Reporting directly to our Deputy General Counsel and collaborating with all core functions within the company, the successful candidate will be able to handle multiple areas of responsibilities autonomously, demonstrating excellent critical judgement with hands-on approach. This is a great opportunity to work on a broad range of projects across multiple jurisdictions and play a key role in supporting the company's rapid growth.
You will be joining a rapidly growing team in one of Europe's most valuable fintechs. The Checkout Legal team's mission Is to be a legal team that exceeds expectations. We do this by providing trusted advice and balancing risk management by fusing high performance, innovation, collaboration and integrity.
You are a lawyer, preferably French qualified with strong post-qualification experience (5+ years) - UK qualification would be an advantage
Previous finance or FinTech industry would be helpful (e.g. payment institution, e-money institution, bank). Software, telecoms, e-commerce or other IT industry background will also be considered
You have previously worked in-house (including on secondment)
You have excellent time management skills and are comfortable managing a high volume of work
You can work autonomously and independently with minimal guidance but are also comfortable working collaboratively as part of a team
You have great communication skills and can explain complex legal issues clearly and simply
You pick up new legal concepts quickly and have a common sense approach
You have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
You are open-minded, adaptable and willing to accept new challenges
Fluency in English and French
What you will be doing
You will draft, review and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including customised customer contracts, strategic partnerships, complex business deals and third-party supplier contracts
You will help develop and maintain standard agreements (such as NDAs, supplier agreements and customer agreements)
You will advise on novel and complex commercial arrangements and provide clear advice on legal and commercial issues and risks
You will monitor new legal and regulatory developments and consider their impact on Checkout.com
You will carry out research on various multijurisdictional legal issues
You will support the Company's strategic projects and initiatives by providing creative, proactive and results orientated advice
As you will be supporting the French business you will work across this business and be prepared to deal with any legal issue that might arise, with the support of the central legal teams in HQ
