Overview

The Philadelphia office of Kaufman Dolowich, an AV-rated firm designated one of the "Best Companies to Work For" among U.S. law firms by U.S. News & World Report, is seeking candidates for a Legal Assistant/Paralegal position. The Legal Assistant/Paralegal works directly with our attorneys to prepare for upcoming cases and gets involved in fact-finding projects. The individual manages attorney caseloads by being organized, professional, responsible, and committed to helping the Firm meet all our clients' needs. The candidate would be joining a growing, dynamic firm with more than 200 attorneys nationwide.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Collaborate with attorneys to prepare for trials, hearings, and meetings.
  • Utilizes existing files and a variety of other research resources to develop information for pending cases.
  • Drafts discovery demands and responses, including, but not limited to, Requests for Production, Interrogatories, Notices for Discovery and Inspection and Requests for Admissions.
  • Processes deposition transcripts.
  • Prepares trial and arbitration hearing binders.
  • Assists with drafting documents such as: Motion to Strike, Motion for Continuances, Proposed Orders, Requests for Judicial Notice, Evidentiary Objections, etc.
  • Assists with e-filing in State, Federal and Appellate Courts and checks the Court's local rules.
  • Prepares timelines and demonstrative exhibits.
  • Drafts routine legal correspondence.
  • Prepares first set of exhibits for motions, discovery responses, etc.
  • Reviews outgoing document production, including redacting and Bates stamping.
  • Creates Preservation of Evidence Letter and Document Request Letters.
  • Performs legal research via WestLaw.
  • Assisting with office administration tasks.
  • Reviews, summarize and analyze medical records to assist with defense of action.
  • Other duties, as needed, to support the firm and office operations.

Qualifications

  • Previous law firm experience (4+ years).
  • Litigation experience.
  • Exceptional organization skills.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize workload.
  • Team oriented.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and principles.
  • Ability to analyze legal documents and ensure accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion with limited guidance.
