Legal Assistant II

Overview

Responsible for supporting the California Workers' Compensation Hearing Representative Unit handling cases from the outset of lien litigation through trial. Responsibilities include the preparation of pleadings and discovery, coordination of schedules, communication with Claims, and organization of files. Maintains a solid understanding of AmTrust's mission, vision, and values. Upholds the standards of the AmTrust organization.

Responsibilities

• Provide support for up to 4 Hearing Reps

• Identify and flag critical documents requiring timely responses and associated deadlines to ensure our clients/insureds/Company are protected from sanctions and unnecessary litigation

• Draft and prepare pleadings and correspondence including, but not limited to, court notices, declarations of readiness to proceed (DOR), Response to Order for Medicals, discovery packets, trial briefs/exhibits, C&R filing etc.

• Coordinates/schedules meetings, hearings, and appointments

• Knowledge of local Court rules and e-filing requirements

• Creates and maintains a heavy litigation calendar

• Independently manage and prioritize competing deadlines

• Presents information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the firm

• Assist Manager with special assignments as needed

• Provide workflow feedback by eliminating unnecessary/outdated processes.

• Engage in new hire training

Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

• 3+ years' California workers compensation defense experience

• EAMS filing Experience

• Organized, self-motivated, with ability to work independently with a great attitude

• Experience using law firm management software, LITIFY, Outlook, Excel

The salary range for this role is $28hr-$30/hr. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California. Base pay offered may vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics. This range may be modified in the future.
