Allstate Staff Counsel Support is responsible for managing Insurance Defense and Tort Litigation / Disputes work and related issues/matters.
This position provides administrative support for Staff Counsel Attorneys in an office under general attorney supervision. The role enters and manages data, including pleadings, motions and trial, arbitration and mediation letters; manages calendars and files related to events and details in the case management systems. Confirms related events & activities & monitors and routes internal/external client inquiries, mail, faxes, etc.
Handle calls and inquiries in an accurate and timely manner

Ability to train others on immediate work group functions
Makes basic decisions within established procedures under supervision
Enters and manages data, including pleadings, motions and trial, arbitration and mediation letters
Manages calendars and files related to events and details in the case management systems
Monitors and maintains compliance with Team Connect (Litigation Management System)
High School Diploma/GED required
Must have 1 - 3 + years of experience in a litigation setting or prior insurance defense experience preferred
Good communications skills including the ability to maintain a courteous and professional demeanor with clients, customers and with fellow employees
Intermediate knowledge of software applications including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, Internet, and other web-based applications
Ability to prioritize work and organize own time
Ability to complete professional, error free documents utilizing good grammar, spelling and format skills, including accurate preparation of legal pleadings, agreement letters, memorandum, reports, outlines, schedules and client communications
Knowledge of immediate work group functions and processes
Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: To perform legal advice and services in a state department or agency on issues posing complex legal interpretations and extensive research of law, rules and regulations; to train, instruct and supervise entry level legal staff; and to do related work as required.

To serve as a hearing officer for cases of a complex and difficult nature requiring the interpretation and enforcement of applicable laws, rules and regulations.
To prepare legal documents, as well as draft rules, regulations, laws, legislation and amendments thereto.
To perform extensive legal research relative to various departmental or agency issues or the preparation and presentation of cases in court.
To prepare in-depth reports, briefs, papers and recommendations on legal matters.
To be responsible for analyzing pertinent information and evidence in order to provide legal opinions to departmental or agency staff personnel for the proper execution of their responsibilities.
To review and evaluate departmental programs from a legal perspective and to propose appropriate changes.
To gather and analyze evidence for cases and review pertinent decisions, policies, regulations, and other legal matters pertaining to such case and to represent the agency in court.
To interact and coordinate legal activities with other legal staff and various other state departments and agencies.
To be responsible for the development and maintenance of legal service programs designed for client groups and to consult with such groups on legal program matters.
To do related work as required.
Required Qualifications for Appointment:
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES: A thorough knowledge of the methods, practices and procedures of governmental law; the ability to interpret the provisions of state and federal laws and to prepare opinions relating thereto for use in the administration of the functions of the department; the ability to function as a hearing officer; the ability to prepare briefs, rulings and miscellaneous legal documents; the ability to research and draft rules and regulations having the force and effect of law while remaining consistent with the purpose and provisions of the law; the ability to exercise independent judgement in making decisions in complex and difficult cases involving legal matters; the ability to train, instruct and supervise entry level legal staff; the ability to prepare detailed reports and recommendations; and related capacities and abilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: Such as may have been gained through: graduation from an accredited law school; and
Experience: Such as may have been gained through: considerable employment in a responsible capacity within a legal services program involving the interpretation of law and the application of pertinent laws, rules, regulations, policies and decisions.
Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must be a member of the Rhode Island Bar and must maintain such membership as a condition of employment.

Allstate's Staff and Retained Counsel represent policyholders in claims-related litigation/disputes across the country. It also represents the Company in the defense of low and moderate exposure bodily injury and property damage lawsuits.
The Litigation Services Intern will:
* Generate and organize various legal documents
* Respond to and prepare discovery
* Have the opportunity to attend depositions and trial when possible
* Draft deposition summaries and medical records summaries
* Perform legal research
* Work under the supervision of a licensed attorney
The salary is competitive and the position begins approximately mid- May to early June 2019 and lasts approximately ten to twelve weeks.

OVERVIEW OF JOB
The Child Care Assistant maintains a safe, pleasant, play environment for the children of parents attending an instructor led parenting class. Monitors children's behavior to ensure a pleasant and safe environment. Explains childcare rules to parents and children. Records attendance and requires parents to sign children in and out of the child care area. Monitors toys and play area for cleanliness and safety. Leads the children in various creative activities and projects.
This position will be for approximately 3 hours per class. There are anywhere from 1-3 classes being held on a weekly basis. Classes can be held in the morning or afternoon/evening time frame.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, OR SKILLS
* High school diploma or equivalent; formal education in child development area and knowledge of discipline methods that work best for children is preferred.
* Previous experience caring for children is preferred.
* Ability to speak clearly and maintain positive communication with parents and families.
* Ability to be flexible to accommodate needs of families within the limits of the play area.
* Ability to think in a clear and reasonable manner to resolve problems in an emergency.
* Ability to control a child who may be out of control or know who to call for help.
* Ability to prepare art materials for children.
* Must have the physical dexterity and strength to lift children, guide children who are out of control, and move play area objects.
* Ability to use specific knowledge of child development related to separation issues, play, social interactions and stress in new social settings in order to make the play area a fun and comfortable place for children.
* Ability to use current behavior management techniques with children including the use of positive reinforcement and time out.
* Ability to work independently in the play area.
