Position and Salary

The Attorney General's Office is recruiting for a permanent full time Legal Assistant 1 in the Wenatchee Regional Services Division. This position is located in Wenatchee, Washington and is represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE).

Legal Assistant 1 (Salary Range 38): $39,804 - $52,920 (effective July 1, 2024).

The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the preferred candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

The following stipends may apply based on position requirements:

  • Legal Assistant 1 incumbents assigned to our Seattle office location will receive an additional 10% Assignment Pay.

  • Incumbents assigned to our Seattle office location receive an additional 5% King County Location Pay stipend.

  • Incumbents assigned to a position designated as requiring dual language skills will receive a 5% Dual Language Requirement Pay stipend.

Division Information

The Wenatchee office is comprised of 10 attorneys and 11 professional staff.

The office represents:

  • Department of Children, Youth and Families in juvenile dependency litigation in Chelan, Douglas, Okanogan, and Grant counties, as well as licensing of Foster Care and Child Care providers, Adult Family Homes and Boarding Homes.

  • Department of Social and Health Services in adult protective services guardianship matters and adult family and boarding home licensing matters in Chelan, Douglas, Okanogan, and Grant counties.

  • The Department of Labor and Industries in Workers Compensation matters.

  • The Department of Employment Security in unemployment compensation appeals.

  • The Department of Licensing in driver's license revocation and suspension matters.

  • Wenatchee Valley College and Educational Service District 171.

Legal Services Provided:

The office provides representation to its clients through both litigation and client advice. Litigation includes hearings and trials in juvenile court and superior court and administrative hearings under the Administrative Procedures Act. Client advice is provided to clients on a broad range of subjects. Attorneys are also responsible for handling cases appealed to the Court of Appeals and Washington Supreme Court.

Location Information:

Wenatchee is located at the confluence of the Wenatchee and Columbia rivers in central Washington, with the opportunity for outdoor activities too numerous to list. The Wenatchee office offers extensive litigation experience in a variety of settings and counties in a small, team-oriented office.

What does a Legal Assistant 1 do?

The AGO provides many opportunities for personal and professional growth through robust training offerings, community involvement, and AGO committee work. The Wenatchee AGO team is a great place to begin your career in the legal field at the AGO. The Legal Assistant 1 independently performs a variety of general and complex clerical tasks in addition to basic technical legal assignments:

  • Open and close litigation case files;

  • Accurately perform case docketing functions and data entry into legal databases;

  • Manage filing, storage, and organization of electronic case files - our office is paperless;

  • Prepare, finalize for signature, and file legal documents with the proper authority;

  • Prepare basic legal correspondence with clients and others requiring knowledge of legal terminology, policies, and procedures;

  • Monitor electronic mailboxes per division protocols and policies;

  • Open, process, and route all incoming mail and legal messenger deliveries;

  • Front desk duties, such as answering phone calls, helping the public, scheduling conference rooms, handling large print projects, etc.;

  • Maintain inventory, track & order supplies, and maintain copiers;

  • Perform weekly delivery or messenger service by filing documents at local courts or serving documents.

Option 1: High School diploma or equivalent and two years of clerical experience including a minimum of one year of experience in a legal environment;

Option 2: Two years of legal office experience;

Option 3: A combination of three years of college education and/or relevant experience;

Option 4: A two year degree in Legal Secretary Studies, Paralegal studies or related field of study.
