The Legal Analyst is responsible for operational support duties of the Legal Department. This position is primarily responsible for ensuring conformity and adherence with all applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations when processing subpoenas and warrants received by the Bank, providing support and direction to the branch network, writing and maintaining legal document processing policies and procedures, and training new team members. The Legal Analyst II must be able to evaluate information and risk in real time in order to service both internal and external customers, and multi-task between repetitive, detail-oriented tasks and dynamic situations within a single day.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Process subpoenas and warrants accurately, timely, and in adherence with all applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations.

  • Research and analyze whether a subpoena/warrant was properly served (proper jurisdiction/service of process) and what accounts (if any) are responsive to the subpoena/warrant.

  • Coordinate with other departments/divisions to gather documents responsive to requests. Review documents and prepare appropriately for production (redaction, Bates stamping, etc.).

  • Track time spent in responding to subpoenas/warrants and create appropriate invoices for documents provided and time spent.

  • Produce documents to requesting party by uploading to a secure site.

  • Utilize and appropriately update the WSFS legal documents processing application to accurately reflect actions taken and the status of a particular subpoena/warrant.

  • Draft and send appropriate correspondence to requesting party and Customer.

  • Communicate with all parties involved (internal and external) regarding inquiries concerning these document types.

  • Support the branches by answering legal-banking inquiries from branch Associates. The areas of inquiry from branch Associates include but are not limited to: check endorsements, review of business documentation, approval for account closures, research, review and approval of estate documentation and various types of court orders/documents, assistance with special account titling, trust accounts, powers of attorney (researching state law where applicable), etc. The Legal Analyst II will research answers to questions using internal and external resources, evaluate and mitigate low to medium risk to the bank, and make appropriate recommendations/decisions.

  • Research and compose newsletters on relevant branch legal topics.

  • Participate in branch related initiatives/projects that require Legal input.

  • Speak at regional branch meetings.

  • Write and maintain internal legal documents processing policies and procedures.

  • Train new team members.

  • Assist in special projects and tasks for the department as directed.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have Associate/Bachelor's degree or minimum of two years of legal documents processing experience, preferably in banking or financial services industry required.

  • Must have an understanding of legal terminology required.

  • Must have knowledge of bank records, bank products and retrieval procedures preferred.

  • Must have demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. Along with excellent typing skills.

  • Must be detail oriented and have ability to draft and write clear and concise communications for internal and external use.

  • Must have the ability to operate effectively under pressure, work independently, and provide advice/make decisions as appropriate.

  • Must have the ability to deal discreetly with confidential information.

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must have the ability to interact professionally with customers, attorneys, governmental agencies and bank Associates.

  • Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks under tight time constraints.

  • Notary Public license helpful (or willingness to obtain if necessary).
