The Opportunity

As a dedicated Legal Analyst Senior, you will perform legal research and analysis for area of specialization under the direction of internal or external legal counsel. In this role you will analyze and compile data in support of development of legal strategies. Responsibilities will include acting as a liaison between internal counsel and external counsel and advise leadership on the progress of cases.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, Chesapeake, VA or Tampa, FL. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Independently performs complex analysis for specific client inquiries, arbitrations, investigations, and litigation.

  • Investigates claims, analyzes facts, estimates potential exposure, formulates alternative legal strategies, acts as a liaison for negotiations, and prepares materials and witnesses involved in legal processes.

  • Applies advanced knowledge to analyze new and pending statutory, regulatory, and decisional law.

  • Identifies and implements changes needed to company policies and procedures.

  • Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of legal requirements in assigned areas of specialization.

  • Facilitates management of internal and external resources, including relationships with outside counsel.

  • Monitors work of third-party resources conducting legal research.

  • Identifies opportunities and potential solutions and provides recommendations to management.

  • Reviews client inquiries for referral to an attorney or assignment to non-attorney resources, as appropriate.

  • Analyzes and investigates allegations and inquiries from related federal, state, and local government agencies, and/or current or former employees and members for problem resolution.

  • Serves as a subject matter expert for legal processes applicable to areas of specialization (i.e., patent prosecution, class action claims, brokerage and transfer agency matters, etc.)

  • Synthesizes analyses, identifies root causes, and develops and recommends key work product.

  • Serves as a resource to team members on escalated issues.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • 6 years of experience with a law firm and/or corporate legal department or 6 years of operational experience utilizing knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft office and relevant legal support software.

  • Ability to effectively anticipate client needs and react appropriately.

What sets you apart:

  • Litigation experience including responding to Subpoenas and Writs of Garnishments

  • Experience working in an in-house legal department counsel within in a financial institution as a legal analyst or paralegal.

  • Bank regulatory experience

  • Paralegal certification.

  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner

What we offer:

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $89,990 - $172,000.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
